TDCi with flashing heater indicator light
Discussion
Hello all,
I am looking at buying a 2004 Mondeo TDCi 130.
The advertiser says the light is flashing for the heater coil (glow plugs) and that it is down on power.
I know this is a common fault with some of the the TDCi.
What is needed to put it right, and about how much to cost.
is it a Ford only, with open wallet surgery, or can the repair be done at other diesel specialists
Thanks

Its in limp home mode, and the reason will be uncovered when you give Ford £78 for a diag
Mine was that the injectors had called it a day, which was 4 figures to put right.
If it's under £2k it's worth thinking about. If it is, you could get them redone on the cheap for much less or chance it with second hand ones. They need coding to the ECU in any event. It's generally regarded as fuelling problems that set off the light of doom

That symptom turned out to be the cam position sensor on mine. IIRC that caused the engine to cut out completely (scary on the motorway - no engine, no power steering or servo brakes...).
Otherwise a fab car.
ps. as someone said, if the fragile injector system has broken then its a costly fix.
