A work colleague told me the other day that some or a lot of the brains that were responsible for the V2 and other rocket programs went on to work for Audi.
He reckoned that the attributions A1, A2, A3 etc were the Nazi code names for the V rockets during the second world war.
Is there any truth in this or is it a lot of old doodlebug?
Eric MC?

Well, the A1 & A2 were the German designations for the Vengance Weapons. And it is possible that some engineers went to work at Audi - but the majority of the best went to the US and worked on the Mercury, Gemini and Apollo programmes under the leadership of the man who "invented" the modern rocket - Werner Von Braun.

If you think about it, almost all cars you drive are made by the Nazi sympathisers. They've got some balls calling the cars that. You almost have to admire them for it

Well, it's true that it is probably a coincidence and nothing more. They've got some balls calling the cars that. You almost have to admire them for it

Bit like the Triumph Spitfire was called the Triumph Spitfire.
But that isn't really a clever code is it?

If that concerns you - you might also want to question the heritage of some now 'household names' that appear on pharmaceuticals and garden products.

Doesn't concern me, I just found it incredible if it was true. My colleague mentioned this a few days ago, it certainly wasn't an April Fool's from him....a few of which simply moved down the road from some of the worst humanistic tragedies and started trading.

I doubt there is any truth at all in it, sounds like complete bThey've got some balls calling the cars that. You almost have to admire them for it

But if it was, why do you see such a big problem with that? I don't think there is anything wrong with admiring or making tributes to military technology.
A company called Audi calling it's models A1, A2, A3 in respect to their size isn't exactly The Enigma code, is it?
Isn't Audi Auto Union Deutche Industrial or something similar? And yes they, like every big company in Germany at the time would have been under orders from the Nazi party. See the 1930s Auto Union racing cars, which while awesome on the track, were heralded as a triumph of the Reich.
BMW made the Mescherschmit too, I believe. And their logo is still a propeller.
Hitler is often seen in a Mercedes, waving to the crowd, and was apparently hugely supportive of VW's car for the people. Volks-wagen, which became the Beetle.
And it's not just cars, Siemens is thought to have funded the Nazi party, and Bayer supplied some of the chemicals which were gruesomely tested on inmates at the concentration camps.
Probably every big company that was in Germany at the time had plenty to do with the Nazi regime, some because they had no choice, some because it was good business and some because they were genuinely supportive of the one b
ked loon.
I don't really think it's that relevant now. Different people, different time.

Its all true and to this day BMW and Porsche have not paid back the millions they made on the back of Nazi gold. This makes anyone owning or driving these cars supporters of the nazi party
Rather that than Labour! At least they were really interested in rallys. Our governments can't do enough to prevent motorsport events that use public roads.Edited by mat205125 on Thursday 2nd April 07:59
