Despite being very careful and storing my Targa panels carefully, I dicovered a broken latch when recovering them from the boot after an open air blast yesterday. I seem to remember some talk about aluminium or stainless latches being available - any ideas where they might be found?

Hi
What do the latches actually do, and do you really need them? The latches were missing from my S1 when I bought it 2 and a half years ago. I have thought about replacing them, but never got round to it and am tempted not to bother at all. Are they there for safety reasons?

I dont think CHims/Griffs have them, someone has said they are to stop the roof going off in a bump.

The latches act as a safety measure to ensure that the front of the targa panels do not lift at speed even if the tesion is removed by inadvertantly collapsing the rear section. I guess that this could happen if a bulky object was put behind the seats which might 'spring' the rear stays. Probably a 'belt and braces' situation but I don't know where one could go to get replacement panels should they become seroiusly damaged.

Direct replacements are available from RS components - just bought two - the other thread referred to above links direct to the page for the correct component.

The only thread I can find has a link to Camlock Ltd. Any chance of the RS Components reference? Thanks.
