Not sure if allowed to suggest this but of your near Nottinghamshire I have a spare pair of bowers and Wilkins speakers you could have for around your price level. Not sure of model number but if someone on forum knows them they could suggest a fair price for both of us. They are smaller than the 600 series so wonder if the 300 series but have lots of small baffle type cavities let me know of your nterested and if someone knows the speakers if you could suggest a fair price then that would be great. Hope this helps.

Thanks for the offer, but I live about 2 hours away.
Thanks for the advice guys.
Well I went for the wharfdales in the end. What a superb little speaker - so much so that yesterday I spent most of the day digging out all my favourite cds for another listen. The special edition digitally re-mastered War of the Worlds sounded great.
I'd forgotten how much fun it is when you get a new bit of hi-fi. Such a pity that particular slope is soooo slippery though.

Nice! Glad you like the Wharfedales too, they really are excellent value speakers, they can really belt it out.
You're right though, Hifi world is a slippery slope I've swapped various components of mine, picked most up on the 2nd hand market and I'm finally happy with what I have, I just need to keep telling myself I'd have to spend a significant amount of money to get an only marginally better sound!
