upgrading pre-cat ventilation for improved flow / aircon
Discussion
I have been away from site for a while - has anyone found a suitable donor kit for this upgrade?
Presumably any of the Jap micro cars must have a small unit and low torque load so as not to upset std engine set up?
Would be nice to replace the cardboard box system with a modern efficient unit - happy to shift battery to boot (where it belongs) to make room if necessary - mice have eaten some of original system so would be good to upgrade.
Must be simple enough for the right sort of chap to come up with solution..

The problem with the Griff is that the space for the HVAC "system" is long and thin instead of the more usual cube arrangement favoured by the Jap microcars. I don't believe there's quite enough of the right sort of space even with the battery and fuseboard relocated to avoid loss of passenger leg room (which is insufficient anyway).
With that in mind I designed and built a direct fit replacement box out of ABS instead of cardboard. The idea is that this one fixes as many of the design flaws as possible given the space limitations. So far, so good, although I want to change things for the summer for the sake of reliability and I don't have really have sufficient time at the moment... If you want AC, then the best place to start is to use a Range Rover compressor (direct fit) and probably something like a classic Impreza AC radiator - this seems to fit nicely in the space in front of the Griff radiator with some custom brackets.

Improving the heating and airflow/ventilation in a precat is easiest done by replacing the motor and matrix with one from a later cat apparently as the heater motor is attached to the matrix rather than relying on the motor under the light pod to drive air down through the wing cavity to the matrix in the passenger footwell.
