Hard pipe kit ,whats it do ??

been looking at my wish list for the year and i wondered what the pro alloy hard pipe kit actualy does ??? it says you get 20bhp extra .....how ??? sorry another stupid question !!!

I don't think it made 20bhp difference when i had it done, but it defiantly improved throttle response.

Plus it looks SO much better than standard.

What it can do is improve on throttle response and it won't collapse under high vacuum conditions.
Open you rear clip and rev the car, watch the sillicone hose start to give way under the manifold vacuum when you blip the throttle.
A hard pipe will stop this happening.

At 510 bhp it made 20ish bhp, I think we found the limit of the curly hose, the ribs were disrupting the flow.

Ok guys , thanks for input , Looks like the money would be better spent on a bigger intercooler or re-map !!!
i guess the best pipe to change is the main feed to the throttle body !!

Err no. The OEM flexible pipes are liable to collapse on the overun and during gerachanges because of suction effects in the induction system. Richard (aka Chillidog) and I have seen it happen with our own eyes. The hard pipe conversion stops this. Thats what its for. There is a larger diameter hard pipe kit in the USA which I think does add approx 20 bhp.

A Hard pipe kit won't add ANYTHING on your total power, unless the flow characteristics of the pipe it's replacing are substantially flawed. I can't see how vacuum is being seen pre throttle plate?
Snake oil guys. Probably looks nicer and that's about it, there certainly are better ways to spend money.

That was my thinking... on a high boost car I can see it stopping the existing ones failing (ie by deforming), but my boost doesnt drop off on full throttle or lag between changes so cant see what it could improve unless the orginal is stupidly restrictive.

What boost do the really high powered cars run?

You're quite right I have changed my post accordingly, the silicone pipe used to collapse when the throttle was blipped.
