You claim back your expenses, so you will not be out of pocket.

Expect, lots of waiting around... smile

of the draw, I did two weeks last April, sat on two trials, both lasting three days, was sent home for three days in between. Hung around a lot on first day, suggest take books or laptop if want to get on with some work (although Judge does tend to look down on you tapping away and surfing the net whilst the trials you sit on are being heard....)

One of my mates was called up to do jury service and he said it was the most boring thing he's ever done, didn't even get involved in any cases, just sat around waiting.

I think if you are self employed, you have a reasonable chance of avoiding a long trial.

Only if my employer is kind enough to pay me while I'm there, I currently earn a little more than 68 quid/day!

I done 2 weeks Jury service a few years ago, one was a Dangerous driving, one a rape, and the third a drug smuggling.

Dangerous driving we got the guy off as the charge was quite unfair- the joy in his face on this news was amazing, never seen anyone so relieved, brought a tear to my eye.
Rape was called off as the victim accused him of doing it to someone else in front of jury- and we are not supposed to know previous offences as it sways things.
Smuggling- he was GUILTY!!

Saw a nice mix of it, enjoyed it thoroughly and would jump at the chance again.

I once had an affair with a juror after a trial had finished.

Hope for your sake you get a female Prosecutor.

Is that all they pay?

At the time I was on pennies, so I actually gained on my expenses by about £300

I'd be a little cautious of discussing on-line or anywhere what has gone on in the jury roomnono

Yep. I did it last year. Spent a week sitting in the Jurers' lounge doing nothing all day and a second week back at work but 'on call' if they needed me.

Well whoopy-fking-do. That's the first hour and a half of the day's lost billable time covered. And the rest?
