My 6 has developed a strange clatter from the font of the engine. Having a quick look the following doesnt spin true, wobbles on its axis for want of a better description

And the drive belt now has oil on it, on the side closest to the engine block. There is also oil spattered all around the front of the engine bay. Looks like there is an oil leak thats getting onto the drive belt and being thrown around the engine bay. I assume both things are related, can anybody shed some light on what the issues may be?

Thanks in advance.

no idea what's wrong, but would suggest taking it to the nearest dealer asap. oil leaks are never a good thing! it may be something very simple, and not something more sinister. have you got the extended warranty if your car is over 3 years old?

Your arrow is pointing at the water pump pulley I believe, but I could be wrong.

ETA That is your water pump pulley.

Its going in today. Just wondered if anybody could through some light on it. No extended warrantu unfottunately. Would only have paid for itself if it costs more than £1000. £900 quid for warranty and £100 excess for each claim. Car was already booked in for a service, so this is just something else to add to the bill. frown

As E30M3SE mentioned, it was the waterpump, basically collapsed on itself. New waterpump, thermostat, flush the coolant and replace, new belt, total of £476 inc VAT, so a lot less than I was expecting.

Doesn't sound too bad, is yours old enough for the 4+ pricing?

Yeah, be 5 years old in June, coming up for 78k now. Had it for over 2 years now and only ever had a problem with the crankcase rebreather and the parking sensors before(front left and right rear still don't work after numerous attempts by a previous main dealer to fix them).

I'll see how this lot do with this and a claim I'm making on the paint/bodywork warranty before I let them loose on the electrics.
