Now that Woolworth's has gone, where do you go to buy boiled sweets now? I had a craving today for an acid drop tab, hippyand couldn't find them anywhere.

WH Smith bags pick'n'mix opportunity

Date: 03 April 2009
STATIONERY and magazine retailer WH Smith aims to fill the estimated £300 million confectionery hole left by the closure of Woolworths by opening its own pick'n'mix counters.

WH Smith already sells confectionery, its move into pick'n'mix is a deliberate attempt to capitalise on the territory Woolworths occupied.

"WH Smith is trialling pick'n'mix in a small number of stores," a WH Smith spokeswoman said.

The move has been cited as a "good opportunity" by industry analysts Verdict Research.

Director Neil Saunderssaid: "The one retailer of pick'n'mix on the high street has gone and it will give the first-mover advantage."

Mr Simms have an Olde Sweet Shoppe in the Great Western Arcade opposite Snow Hill Station in Birmingham.

Although it's a bit twee, it does look like a sweet shop should look like, and is a confectionery delight!

Don't know whether they have an online shop, but there's plenty of online confectioners who sell allsorts, including specialist imported goodies.
