Exhaust diameter

When I bought my car i was told the exhaust was non standard. Its fairly quiet so presumed it was most likly actually standard, however when under the car the other night it become obvious its not stock. The centre plate that bolts to the chassis is actually spaced away so it will clear the exhaust. They are also a 2.5" pipes all the way through. What is the standard size pipe? I had presumed that as normally a 2" pipe is used to sleeve the cans it would 2 1/4 max all the way through.

Also has anyone got any pictures of the standard exhaust underneth?

Standard Tuscan is 54mm (2 1/8") OD from cats back to near the corner boxes and the "S" derivative is 57mm (2 1/4") OD. At what point does it expand to 2.5" as the cats with have either 54mm or 57mm spigot outlets?

When you say "Center Plate"..... I'm guessing you mean the two stainless steel under trays.

Both of these trays bolt to the main chassis rails which have a spacer welded to the chassis. If you unbolt either of the under trays, you will see that the spacers are actually welded to the chassis and that's standard. If it's two and a half inch diameter, what cans are you using ???

Its the second plate towards the back of the car, i have the front plate off at the moment so i know the spacers you mean, but these are additional. They are actually large nuts! I have not had chance to check the system yet for brand names but will do over the weekend. How many boxes are there normally? I have (from cats back and on each pipe) small silencers around 12-14" long where the second plate is, then boxes at the back which have an angled take off which the end cans then slip onto.

Ntel- when i have had chance to have a better look i will know, but the pipes slip over the cats and appear to be the same diameter where it sleeves to the rest of the system.

Sounds like a standard exhaust system. Maybe someone has not fitted it correctly hence using the nuts on the chassis plate.
