Just to give you a bit of history for those that dont know,Its powered by a Rolls Royce 4.2 B60 engine.Weighing just under 4 ton, Fuel consumption is around 7-8mpg on road, dropping to about 4 off road, with a 65mph top speed. It has 5 forward, and 5 reverse gears.Thats right! It can go as fast in reverse,as it can going forwards.
This particular example was one of 25 rescued from a Belgian dealers yard back in 1998 by a millionaire Kent enthusiast. They were all ex BOAR(British Army Of the Rhine)With the help of his ex-Reme mechanic, they set about restoring the best 15 examples. the remaining 10 were used for what ever spares could be used, with the hulls then being scrapped. Some examples in the yard were in a very poor condition, including some ex-Gulf war ones.
My one came back to life in 2005,after it had undergone a complete hull up rebuild.
Included in the re-build was a NOS(new old stock) power pack(engine) NOS gearbox and rad.A comprehensive strip down of the wheel stations. Drive on these is transfered from two gearbox mounted differentials to wheel stations in each hub.
I took delivery in May 05. With the condition of sale that they were only going to respected enthusiasts. Believe it or not i had to go along to an interview prior to sale to be considered.(He was really that choosy to who he sold to)The ferret is still maintained by his mechanic, with an abundance of spares in stock, including 60 gearboxes and engines bought from the Jordanian Defence Force who have just put 150 Ferrets back in to service with different packs and engines. They will remain on the road for years to come.
It has great road presence, and i have attended a number of shows with it including P.H ones.
