I was just about to start breaking my old 944s2 Porsche when i a silly idea crossed my mind ! could and would it be viable to put the engine in my Cat E1 ? for those who don't know its a 4 pot 3 litre engine,gear box in the back and torque tube through the middle, I know anything is possible but i don't really want to spend £0000s of hours and money on a project like this when the pinto engine in the car is good and strong...I guess the question I'm asking is what type of problems am i likely to come across and how might i get over them ?



Any opinions welcome .

On the USA Locost site is a guy who was building a Locost with 924 running gear so it is possible. Porker lump is very large & bulky so not sure it'd fit the standard chassis.

The other main issue will be how to fit the transaxle. It runs forward from the real axle line (unlike the Hewland transaxle on my Westfield, which hangs out behind), and I'd be quite surprised if the transmission tunnel on the standard chassis is big enough to accomodate it.

Then you've got to worry about how to mount it, of course.

It's not impossible fitting a front engine/rear transaxle to a Seven (there was a Lola Mk1 replica a few years ago that used an Alfa transaxle, and apart from the FW400 there has been at least one spaceframe Westfield with a Hewland), but with something as bulkiy as the Porsche transaxle I'd have thought it would be easier to design a new chassis to suit rather than try to cut-and-shut the Tiger chassis.
