I want to upgrade the brakes on my 2003 Murcie, as they are c..p. I have fitted Hercules rims which should allow me to fit
bigger discs. I'm not up for a Lambo upgrade at 15K but would like to fit AP calipers and bigger roters.

Has anyone done this or does anyone have the dimensions I need so I can talk to AP.

Thanks in advance

I am waiting for my grooved discs from tarox, better brakes by far, fitting red stuff pads and braided hoses, same fit as yours. under 2k

I looked into this.

Ap & Movit do it or alternatively Brembo do a kit consisting of 380mm rotors, pads and mounting brackets that fit with with the standard calipers.

I did also wonder about the possibility of getting parts of a salvage lp640.

My thoughts in the end, were that it was probably not going to be worth the expense though.

They look good but are they that much of an improvement? Did you change the calipers as well?

I have changed the pads to red but the warping of the discs is extreme and the fade is really bad.

And finally, for the minute, where are Tarrox?

Thanks guys

The tarox discs were made from a set of originals I supplied them with a couple of years ago. The main reason was not to get an improvement in braking but a cheaper alternative to the originals which are ridiculous prices (my Murcie then had done about 60k).

However they are not an improvement on the originals at all.
To get an improvement to the brakes on pre 2005 Murcies, you have to fit a set of Gallardo calipers on the front axle. My mate is doing this to my Murcie right now, I'll find out exactly what else is required but I know the wheels have to be changed to Hemera/Roadster type to accomodate the new calipers and bellhousing. So it works out pretty expensive. Set of new type wheels from Eurospares are around 4 grand plus Gallardo calipers etc. I suspect the whole job will be about 5k but since mine is used a lot on the track it will be worth it me thinks.
Anyone looking for replacement Murcie pads call Tim @circuit supplies who will supply a full set for about £300 btw

Just an update, to upgrade the brakes you need:

Roadster/Hemera wheels (£4000?)
380mm discs complete with hubs (£1000)
Gallardo calipers & spacers (£1000 Eurospares etc)

This is just for the front axle which is all you need. Mine will be done in a month or so.

Why does the much heavier, much more powerful and much more expensive Murcielago come with worse brakes than the Gallardo?

So Simon - the rears stay the same?

And all you need is the Gallrdo Claipers (any particualr year) calipers and spacers and a pair of Discs/hubs? Are they Gallardo discs/hubs?

I don't think doing the rears will give you too much of a benefit, the ABS system will distribute the braking power evenly over the discs front and rear. I think you might fine that the rears If std pad) will wear down a bit quicker.

Agree with Si that Tarox discs don't give you any benefit - after driving SG54LAM more than a few times smile it has certainly been lacking in the brake dept especially when you've just come out the LP640.

Shame you have to buy bigger wheels to fit the Gallardo calipers, I got quoted around £2k to put the Gallardo brakes on the CSL - seems like they are a very good caliper.

The Murci brakes and various other items such as the wiper mechanism were upgraded from MY05 onwards.

Hi Simon,

Did you have these done in the end?
What was the outcome and how much better than the orig/tarox setup?

Chris

Steve,

Does Brembo do a kit that would fit on a Diablo, using the first generation 17" wheels?

Hi Chris the work is being completed at Lambo Manchester at the moment.

I bought the Gallardo calipers from Eurospares for £600, some Hemera wheels for £3000 from them too (need the later type wheels to cover the calipers), and the bigger Brembo grooved race discs have been made and delivered. This just leaves some spacers to be made up for the calipers.

My business partner LamboAndy had 4 other discs made up for the LP640 with Pagid blue pads and the difference to the LP640 is very noticeable so it should transform the Murcie. Work should be done in a couple of weeks or so as its in for a clutch too.
I'll post a step by step guide, costs and where to get the bits and what is required next month.

The tarox discs and braided hoses with new pads, do improve the braking a bit but if you want Gallardo/LP640 stopping power then the above is the only way to go
