My tapets were adjusted about 7000 miles ago, but that was a few years ago as well, when she's warm they are fine, but on start up they do tap a lot... been like it since i got the car

Just thought I would get an Idea of the norm

Noisy when cold, quite (ish or ier) when hot.

Aren't they included in the 12k service?

I have always wondered what the norm is as well mine sounds like an old tractor on start up but when its warmed through goes a lot quieter but you can still hear it tapping away even when its really warm. 1998 4.2

1997 4.2 sounds like a bag of bolts when cold but quiet when warm.

If they're on clatter cams like my old 4.2, then as rattly as a bag of spanners.

Recent 12,000 service made mine noiser cold, but quiter when hot!!!

If noisey when hot you need to get the clearences done.
If quite when cold as above.
If you can't hear them at all when hot as above. again I'd suggest?

Cold - Picture a bucket full of spanners being thrown down a metal staircase..

Warm - a little mechanical sounding still but fk me is the thing sounding good out the other end/ pulling like a bd towards the horizon. hehethumbup
