I was caught doing 103pmh last Saturday night on the A1 just outside Leeds. Haven't head anything yet.

Does the 14 day rule still apply even if you are pulled? And has anyone any idea if I'm likely to get a ban or not, or if I should attend the court? I have a clean licence up to now.

If you were stopped and reported by the BiB (and didn't negotiate a sub 100 fixer) then you'll get a summons, go to court, and get a ban (3-6 months at a guess).

For some reason 100 mph seems to be the Devils own speed. 99 is £60 and 3 points (at the moment) and 101 is a ban. Silly innit?

100 does not equal ban, it exceeds plod's discretion. Bench still has it and with a half competently argued case will be exercised. Just don't try to justify breaking the law, it's still breaking the law. Tackle it from ther point of Yes it was breaking the law, I should not have done it, but I was paying attention and seen .... the road was clear of traffic, dry ... etc so risk was minimised to other people, only person at risk was me.

3-6 months?! For 103mph with a clean licence.

If this happens, I'm likely to lose my job. Don't they take this into account?

Would anyone reccommend me getting a solicitor to sort this out?

You wouldn't believe it but the reason I was speeding in the first place was because I was late... for a date with a lawyer!!!

Also, does anyone have any idea how long this all takes?

I'm leaving the country in Feb anyway to live abroad - any chance it will drag on till then?!

You could be gone by the time it gets to court, mine took about 5 months, 6 points and £450 fine for 103 mph on the A1 too.

If you want to avoid a ban then you really must go to court and put your case across - the ban is discretionary (as has been stated) but is also a recommended punishment so you they will be looking for you to provide reasons NOT to get banned, rather than the other way 'round. If you're a confident speaker you don't necessarily need a solicitor - people who self-represent tend to get away with procedural murder

As I've posted before a ban is not always given, In Feb I went to court for 101 in a 60 (last June), fully expecting a ban, anyway went, well dressed, co-operative, humble, sorry, solicitor etc. and got 6 points & £300, actually thought the Mags were sort of sympathetic, in fact they commented that although it was a 'very high speed' that it was not too bad as it was during an overtaking manouver not just speed for speed's sake.

Still consider myself hard done to though and the cop who stopped me was a pr!ck

All the best and good luck

Edited to add: If you're emigrating in Feb then don't worry about it too much, you can probably postpone court hearing for a month, a few times if neccessary - and if you're not coming back then bo**ocks to'em
