Stripped starter motor threads

Horrible metal-to-metal screech when I tried to start her this morning. To cut a long story short the threads in the bellhousing have stripped and the starter was loose. The starter gear has taken 0.5mm off a couple of the ring gear teeth.

Has anyone HeliCoiled these threads?

I can shorten a drill bit down to avoid touching the clutch and slide some cloth inside the bellhousing to catch swarf.

Anyone know what the liklihood of success is?
