Hi all,

Going to be off to Wroclaw, Poland in June for a mates’ stag do.

The ‘activities’ are being organised by another member of the group, which so far is gun firing at a range and some Go Karting, along with the usual nights out over the weekend. What I was wandering was this:

A: has anybody been out there? (i.e its not Krakow or Warsaw – is it very popular/lively)
B: What is there to do for a weekend? (Sightseeing/Shopping/partying)
C: what are the locals like?

Answers appreciated

Thanks

Great place, plenty to do and good nightlife. Really friendly locals. Well recommended.

i flew into wroclaw with a group of mates as it was silly cheap [£30 or so inc. taxes] but only stayed the one night as we took a train to krakow [proper old school trains with compartments, like a mobile drunken picnic!].

looked an ok place, but there was a notable difference to krakow. people didn't seem used to tourists and weren't that friendly. in one of the clubs on the main square there was definitely an atmosphere - lots of meatheads starting/grunting/chestbeating etc. there was a good bar in that area though, but i can't remember the name!

one thing, leave it as late as possible to get back to the airport. my house is bigger than the terminal, there's not much space to sit, no shops, etc. 2hrs + in there and a ryanair flight is like being at the ritz.

I was there a couple of years ago.
There's virtually nothing outside the centre. You're probably best just staying in the old town - there are a few nice bars on the main square. Look out for 'Spiz' and see if you can drink one of each of the beers they have.

have you booked wroclaw based on cheaper flights over krakow?

the slow train we took was about a £7 and took 4hrs. with an ipod, speakers, beer and food [and some snuff for some reason] its a quick journey. we had a sleeper compartment to ourselves and the guards were fine with it, it was the empty vodka bottles in the corridor that made us break out the beer in the first place.

no idea.

The best man, who is organising it just came out with Wroclaw. everyone just went with it. no idea at all about the place.

Only going from Friday till Sunday so its just a weekender and have booked up The Sofitel on the old town for accomodation already, so i guess we will just be in Wroclaw and not doing much travelling to other cities.

ah ok.

what will be in your favour is that you will bump into few, if any, brits. this is always a bonus. have had some very interesting encounters in eastern europe with random people just coming upto you and starting conversations. have been on a magical midnight mystery tour of krakow with one chap in a clapped out skoda, been one of 4 males [the other 3 being my mates] at a totty filled hen-do out in the sticks in latvia, been invited to house parties etc.

check this site out. click the pdf tab and print it out for free. have always found these to be reliable and they're updated regularly by locals.
