which engine oil is best

Hi all

I have a Tuscan Speed 6 (W) REG and need to get some oil , can you tell me which is best for the engine plz

I would check your Service Bills to see what was put in at the last service. It appears that different garages use differnt oil grades/types.

Isn't 0-40 the recommended viscosity? Having said that a lot of people seem to be using 10-40

I spoke with TVRpower last week, they serviced my car with 10W40 Semi Synthetic.

Heard the 0w recommended in the manual is a tad too thin.

I can confirm the post above. I recently asked TVR Power who told me to use 10-40 Semi Synthetic and nothing else - although you do have to consider what is already in it.

But then it is much faster through the oil ways
at the recommended places in the cylinderhead and
lubicates your followers!

I use 5w-50 mobil fully syntetic!
5w for the cold engine
50w for the hot engine
Always good pressure!!

This oil is also recommended for track days,
so it should be the best.

(But maybe the margin for dealers in selling this oil is not so high!
First the profit, then a good oil!)

Castrol Edge Fully Syntetic 10W-60 as recommended by Paul from PPC TVR. Pressure is always perfect at any temperature. A bit more expensive, but works.

Why would you choose semi syth over fully syth?

I'm never sure what to go for but can tell you that with the regular servicing intervals and quanity of oil needed it would get very expensive to put in top quality fully syth all the time.

Last time I just went with whatever APM recommended - I think it was 10w-40 mobile 1.

Pity as 0w-40 mobile 1 is cheap in Costco!

Fully snthetic oil has no mineral oils in it and will therefore not leave any deposits inside the engine.

You will not find an semi-synthetic oil having the 10-60 spec. 60 means, that the oil will still maintain the film even when very hot. Might be of use for the SpeedSix.

Talking about cost, the price of the oil should not be the limiting factor when driving any TVR, should it?

I use 15/50 Mobil 1, 20psi at hot idle and 48psi hot max rpm, used it in my cozzy endine last 12 years and it aint done that no harm (driven hard hydraulic cam followers. Did'nt think they did 10/40 Mobil 1 any more maybe last 6-7years?

Just checked (and run out) I was wrong before- Apm use 15-50 mobile 1. Anyone know where I can get some cheap?!

I found ebay best, just got to keep your eye on it, I tend to by 15-20 litres at a time (bulk buy)as I have 3 cars that all like Mobil 1 15/50. Halfords can also be cheap when they have it on special!!...
