Looking forward to it, going back down to Westover Sports cars to try out a 111S, 111R and Exige

can't wait to get back behind the wheel of a Lotus again, have also been considering a Porsche 911 (996) and have driven 5 ove rthe last 2 weeks which were great, just hope the S2's live up to my memories of my S1

well i spent 2 hours down at westover this morning driving the S & R which included being stopped by the plod whilst Ben was driving which was fun!

back to the serious question, the R was much faster once the 2nd cam kicked in and was very addictive but & its a BIG but, i think i prefer the S due to the fact has has the urge to pull from any speed in any gear and somehow manages to feel more fun at a less speed.

we did pretty much the same run in both cars and found myself averaging about 20mph faster in the R than i did the S, but i found myself driving it trying to hit the 2nd cam all the time rather than flow from corner to corner. i have also been asking myself how usable the 2nd cam is without doing silly speeds all the time (roughly 60ish by the time you change to 3rd)

would be interested in hearing other peoples thoughts on this.

to throw a spanner in teh works, i have just seen a supercharged honda s2 in the classifieds for £21,500 which is just above my budget but is very tempting!

It was Ben who was very helpful and answered every question i had about the S2 (had S1 before)

they have a lovely 2008 black 111s which i'm very tempted by or depnding on insurance quotes a Honda'd one if i can raise a bit more funds smile

Interesting as most of the motoring press seem to prefer the S over the R. Generally they reckon its got just enough power and is the purer experience.

the only improvements on the S for me, would be the noise factor (exhaust, induction & poss decat like i did on my S1) which would help pull just that little bit more and then change a few interior trim pieces like the indicator stalks for the machined alu ones to stop myself myself looking at vauxhall parts smile

Supercharged Honda is another league performance wise to a 111R.

Ben is a star, he cracks me up. We should have a thread just for "ben quotes"!

The 111s stopped being produced in 2005 (we saw the last 4 off the production line, all bound for japan). It would have ben a 2008 "S" which you could not honda.

I went into the showroom today as i was waiting for the car to be serviced and mentioned to Ben "i hear you had a nice run in with the police yesterday" he was a little sheepish about it!
Must admit i know some people have had problems with the servicing side in the past but i've never had any issues. Infact, they were very helpful today and phoned me a couple of times just to let me how it was all going. Just a shame we don't have a dealer like that in the southwest who care about sales and servicing like they do

When i used them for my previous Lotus, had nothing but good things to say about them apart from 1 mot where they failed it on 4 items which required about 2 grands worth of work which i disagreed with so took it to another good mot station where it flew through with just 1 small advisory regarding rear tyres needed in about 4,000 miles.

agreed, as dealers go, they are certainly one of teh best around, far far better than wood BMW!

Just make sure that when any dealer "advise" something needs replacing... that it really really really does..workshops may be very quiet at the moment....... readit

When Lotus servicing used to be up on the industrial estate (not sure where it is now) alongside the Fezzas etc they recommended a whole of completely unecessary work as I discovered to my cost when I inspected some of the original parts (brake discs to be precise). They also tried to charge me for washer fluid "top-up" when I had purposely filled the reservoir to the limit. It wasn't the charge (which of course I refused to pay) but the principle... If they could try something as obvious as that, then.... nono
Once bitten twice shy.

I have not used the servicing down near the Quay so will not try to tarnish those mechanics with their colleagues on the estate. Everyone seems very reasonable down on the wuay and the parts people especially helpful. beer

My balanced appraisal here endith

all of my servicing was on the industrial estate - have they moved then? is it all at West Quay Road now?
