I just want to clarify straight away that i am not being tongue in cheek here, i genuinely do love this movie.

So....anyone seen JCVD yet? New movie starring and all about the legend that is Jean-Claude Van Damme?

I watched it recently and was literally blown away, i was expecting some really cheesy action movie with more one-liners than Jimmy Carr, but it wasn't anything like that, don't let the DVD cover fool you, there is NO action, its very soul searching and an incredibly emotional film, aswell as funny and brilliantly acted.

The monologue in the middle is hands down the best monologue i have seen in a film EVER! JC has a proper break down in the scene and its great to see an actor portraying so much real emotion.

It was also funny as hell, and my missus loved it aswell. I'd easily put it as my film of the year so far, and in my top 10 movies of all time, its one of the few films i actually paid to see recently.
The trailer:

If you want to completely ruin the film for yourself, here's the monologue, fantastic:

oh and did i mention its all in Belgian?

I bought this last week and thought it was absolutely fantastic! Thoroughly recommend it to everyone! The opening scene is comedy gold, the cigarette kick is fabulous, and the monologue is utterly engrossing. All in all a great watch.

I am intrigued! is it a serious film, a film of his life, or a parody of his life? Or a fictional film about him as an action hero?

I'll have a watch of it anyway, I actually like him! Never takes himself too seriously.! Bit like Arnie, and The ROCK, (a far better ((comedy??)) actor than he is given credit for) He can poke fun at himself.

Vin Diesel on the other hand ....... rage

It's a bank robbery action comedy starring JCVD as himself (a depressed, ageing, cash strapped, over the hill, Belgian movie star).

Random quote - Policier: Central to Unit 27. Jean-Claude Van Damme's robbing a post office. I need back-up.

I've been a huge JCVD fan since I first saw Kickboxer, cyborg and of course bloodsport---i get a lot of flack from my friends about it, mostly all people in america think he's a joke, not me though--i waited a while for this movie and I thought it was great, watched it twice the same day. I liked how it was half english and half belgian with subtitles. Funny, and most of all it shows JC is an actor, not just an action star. But I knew that already and it especially shows true in the movie In Hell, which if you haven't seen that film please do right away!!! That should have been in american theatres, that was a film worthy of it.

Watched this the other night after a recommendation from someone. I was very impressed and though JCVD was very brave in his portrayal of himself. It was in a similar vein to the also excellent Being John Malkovich, but not quite so off the wall.

Just looked it up on wikipedia, not really into fighting films but I will give it a whirl.

Watched this last night and Mrs Arese and I both loved it. A good mix of comedy and some serious bits, the monologue that has already been mentioned by the OP really is a special moment. It had us both choked for a little while.

Definitely one to watch, I'm also going to buy it. thumbup

Dirty Bubble - In Hell seems like it would be a fighting movie, and it does have fighting in its premise, but its so much more than that. JC shows his true acting capabilities. The film is well directed and has spooky and surprising scenes. Very deep film it is. If I had to choose what my favorite JCVD movies are it would begin along the lines of Maximum Risk, In Hell, Wake of Death, JCVD, Lion Heart...

I stayed up to watch this last night and it was definitely worth the tired eyes this morning! What a cracking film, the pay-off for watching it was tremendous. Thanks to the OP for raising this topic and to whoever who resurected the thread, the best film I've seen this year thumbup

Really great film, really enjoyed it. Favourite bit was at the end of the seige when Van Damme is being lead out at Gun Point and he imagines breaking out of the hold doing a round house and then posing for the croud.... then reality kicks in and he just clumsily elbows the guy and the Police fumble them to the ground

Did anyone else notice that when he gave the monoloque in the post office the camera panned up and showed the filming equipment on the roof.

The film obviously was a chance for Van Damme to air a few demons as well.

Someone can feel free to correct me here, but I'm pretty sure the chair he sat on raised up on purpose to take him up out of the set so he could break the fourth wall.
