Finding work in the US

I probably posted this in the wrong section originally (sorry mods)
Right, just a quick background. From 2007-2008 I was on an internship in New York with a US bank. I was out there on the J1 visa scheme which was only for 12 months. I returned to the UK last and now work in a similar BA position for a UK based insurer. However, I am desperate to get back over to the States and New York in particular. Has anyone had any experience of going through this, where is best to search for jobs, how easy is the H1 visa to get? I suppose I should that I am British (English) so can't apply for the Green Card lottery either!
