Oh well, put my drivers side window up a bit to keep the rain out, and it fell off its perch. irked

I presume there are some obvious screws to remove the door panel, but can anyone give me some tips please. smile

Turn off the footwell lights.
Remove screw from door opener, pop off all the retainers lift upwards over the door lock. Door handle can stay put.
Pull back plastic weather proofing.

Good luck with the innerds.
Sounds like one of the vertical runners might have fallen/rusted.

Cheers Jeff. thumbup

Footwell lights you say... scratchchin

I know WHY you're supposed to switch them off...just haven't notice ANY interior ones that actually work. hehe

I've got a "footwell light" however the fact that only half the tacho lights up seems a bit of a coincidence...biglaugh

Graham, my old 350i did this (window fell down inside the door)

Original runners + years of rain = totally rusted. They literally fell apart.

I had a hell of a job finding replacements..I think i had some made up?
Not like they are complicated.

I have had this, the bit the glass sits on, Rusts and the window gets loose in the runner.
I cheated by filling the runner up with Silicon Sealant and stuck the Window in it!
The other thing which is handy to do this job is Small hands which I dont have, and plenty of money for the swear box.

have fun

Ok, everything stripped everything off the door (in other words all the various bits of gaffer tape and old polythene smile).

Vertical runners are fine, and glass is sitting firmly in bottom runner, but was out of front one. So I've persuaded it back into place without breaking anything.eek

What seems to have happened is that the BOTTOM part of the scissor-like lifting arrangement....trailing end (lock bit) of door, has another part that runs along a (bottom) guide channel, and THIS has come out.

This is allowing the front of the whole gismo to tip forward and dislodge the glass from the frame (which IS pretty wide, back and front).

SO...off I go to try and get this back in - thank goodness it's fairly accessible, and tighten up the bolt which appears to locate that part of the mechanism. Gawd I hate things I can't reach ! banghead

Oh well, job done.

Put the bit back where it was supposed to be and checked working of window, tightened up bolts that hold the small piece of channel.
Also put some insulating tape around all wiring connectors while I had access.
The innards generally look in good nick.

Renewed all gaffer tape, put panels in place, and now she's back in the garage. smile

Don't speak too soon...damned thing did it again when I got home yesterday.irked

I need the take that bit of channel out (only about 4" long...but probably should be 5 or 6) and fix it/fabricate a new one. I had hoped it would hold as was, but obviously not.

Still, this is how you get to know your car and its little foibles. rolleyes
