Hi,

I am a V8S owner with Griff ali roof struts fitted. The trouble is that the struts rub on the rear window and leave a black / grey stain.

Does this happen on the Griff, and how do you get rid of it without damaging the soft flexible screen.

many thanks,

Z

To prevent that ocurring in the first place a number of us use Seat belt pads wrapped round the stay and slide them down when dropping the roof to stop the plastic rubbing against the stay.

To clean the rear screen I recommend using a product called Hindsight. Website here It removes scratches and brings the plastic back to good as new condition. It's a two part process and takes a bit of time to do properly but did an excellent job on my screen. Others recommend the Renovo screen restorer product but I've no experience of that.

To keep the screen supple once you've restored it I'd recommend using 303 Aerospace Protectant.

Is it Autosol that causes this?

Renovo rear screen cleaner will work a treat on this. Continued use of it inside and out will get the screen really supple. Good advice then to use the seat belt restraint slip overs to stop the metal making contact with the rear screen when the mullet is down!

Use 303 from The Polishing Company. Cleans the crap off and makes the window all soft and flexible again.

Thanks for the replies, I will check out the products in question.

I believe that the silver black deposit is aluminium oxide and dirt, I have a loft ladder that produces the same on my hands.

Once I have removed it I plan to cover the struts with clear adhesive plastic (giant sellotape), we have a load at work that looks just the ticket. That will stop is coming back.

Thanks

I would suggest cleaning with 303 protectant (as maggits suggestion - it cleans and makes the screen more supple plus has UV protectant) and get some TVR seat belt pads which you can attach to the struts, which will protect the rear screen and also look good. Between £5 and £10 a pair depending upon availability. I think the tape will look crap.

Totally agree it'll look awful once the sun has dried it out and yellowed it and the glue has melted and stuck to the rear screen.

The stuff I had in mind is pretty thick and more like armorfend, but it may well look crap. I'm glad I didn't suggest pipe lagging.

TVR seatbelt holders are probably a good idea.

Griff over-centre support bars are clear coated, so the metal doesn't transfer to the screen.
