I'm having the car serviced tomorrow by my local mechanic. What type of oil do people put in the 350i.

I read a post on this and there didnt seem to be much consensus. Synthetic/Semi? Does it make a difference?

It sounds like the mineral content is important as well.

I used Magnatec 10-40 changed every 2-3k in my wedges. I use 5-40 fully synth in the Griff coz it gets noisy if I don't.

Valvoline VR1 Racing 20w50 for me. Again it supposedly has higher levels of Zinc dithiophosphates which helps to stop our stoneage technology valvetrains wearing out hehe

Think 60 is too thick and 50 is enough, or your engine is running a lot hotter than normal then perhaps 60 makes sense.....

Use 15/50, 20/50 or even 15/40 as alternative, of which 20 isn't a good choice during winter conditions/coldstarts. Would even be better for the engine to use 10 all year round.

Yes engine ran hot well I thought so, or more to the point it increased very quickly when you stop for lights and things, which it does not with the 10/60 in, I run a manual switch for the fan as well. and as for the car continue to follow the policy of 'if it sounds good' leave it alone, well apart from oil and filters and things.
