Been trying to cut down on the red at night and now on my second glass since Sunday. But it doesn't half make the nights slightly dull abstaining. Was drinking half a bottle of red or so a night and was just wondering how this compared to others out there?

Yours, one slightly reformed, red wine loving drinker.

Used to be a glass a night, now nothing, a few (4/5) on rare nights out
My body has taken offence at alcohol recently

I may be young, but saying that not drinking makes your nights dull is pretty sad IMO.

I can go weeks without touching a drop, and then go into overload...maybe a bottle or two of vino, some vodka, and a few shots.

And since I don't go out too often (once a month, if I am lucky), I do tend to binge on nights out too....20+ units

But I am almost angel like compared to when I was in my late teens....four nights a week, all heavy sessions. Christ knows how my body coped, or how I was able to afford it rolleyes

Edited to fit Ali wink

Just recently, I've found I'm not bothered about drinking at all, not even on a weekend yikes

Too much. On average I'd say a couple of beers a night.

Far too much - a bottle per night, usually a hefty white, with a bit more on Saturday. Funnily enough, if I drink red now I feel dreadful the next morning.

Thats perfectly normal, unfortunatley for me my favourite wines are reds with lots of tannin, can result in some quite brutal hangovers.

varys between nothing and half a bottle of red on week nights. Weekends soemtimes nothing sometimes quite large amounts.

While Im quite aware that according to the governement I drink too much, i dont have many other vices and I'm physically fit so im really not bothered.

Another 'Binge drinker' here. I can easily go weeks without a drink, or maybe just the occasional beer if I fancy it, but when I do have a drink it tends to be 6-8 pints before hitting the spirits and mixers and maybe a cheeky Sambuca or two...
If i'm going to have a drink, I'm going to have a drink. If that means having more than my recommended daily allowance in one pop then so be it.

Drink a wee bit too heavily with a bottle of white wine easily consumed per evening, however a lot of this drinking is done as part of my work (client meetings) and as such is largely unavoidable. Well that's my denial excuse anyhow!

I used to drink a half bottle with my meal virtually every night. Add to that the odd beer and/or a nightcap or two and it was seriously adding up.

Fact is - I really enjoy wine with my meal, I really, really enjoy a glass of good Brandy de Jerez and also a beer.

So to prevent quaffing ludicrous volumes I've changed my habits:

1. I don't keep beer in the house, or buy it in tins. I only consume beer in the pub and I almost never go.

2. Monday to Wednesday I drink no alcohol at all. Say... 90% of the time.

3. I don't drink any more Thursday to Sunday than I used to.

This has halved my alcohol intake, pretty much.

To be honest I don't feel much different for it, although I seem to sleep better. I am consuming fewer calories (which can only be good for me...) and giving my liver a break.

I almost certainly still consume more than the recommended levels. Ah well.

Interestingly - all the cutting down measures have been no problem at all. Don't miss it at all...other than the nice taste I'm not having.

Oh. You'd think my semi-regular drinking would give a "capacity". Sad to say - it hasn't. And being in my forties I have found hangovers are ten times worse than they were in my twenties.

I almost NEVER binge on booze because when I do? I am ill for days and days. The hell is not worth it.

My guess is that happens to most people. So beware! Enjoy your big nights out/in whilst you can. They'll probably come to an head-aching, guts-heaving end. frown

varies massively. i am in the teens in bottles of whisky vanished since xmas, but in the last few weeks haven't touched a drop and won't be at that consumption again until life's next curveball.

live alone so opening a bottle of wine is an undertaking to drink the whole thing or drink a bit and cook with the rest. been building up a small collection of £10-15 bottles of red so cooking is a waste and drinking it all myself seems excessive and a bit sad. i am now a much better dinner guest than i used to be!

i'd say on average a few bottles of beer a week. this is des to living circumstances though, i don't socialise here and mates are 2hrs away. will be out tonight though and it will be a very heavy session. once i move back to civilisation i'd say 15 or so units a week would be right.

Personally i'd call 6-8 pints followed by a couple of whisky and cokes and a shot or two a relatively quiet and restrained night, even in my old age (26 to be precise). Compared to my yoof anyway when I was quite a big and regular drinker (like we all were right?) I certaintly don't suffer a hangover from that amount anyway, but then I am built.
I can definately agree with you on the ability to be able to deal with hangovers deminishing with age. 10 years ago I would be able to do 10+ pints AND god knows how much spirits, roll into bed at stupid o clock blind drunk and be up and at work on Sunday morning a few hours later with just the faintest of hangovers. On the very rare occasion I do that now, I usually spend the whole of Sunday moping about with a banging thick head which subsides about Monday lunchtime...
Me and the missus would rather not drink beyond our limits and be able to enjoy Sunday than have it wiped out by a hangover. Weekends are too precious.

Well I've pretty much cut out mid-week beers.

But most nights I have 1 or 2 drams. At least 1 night a week I'll have 3 or 4.

And I'll usually have a couple of beers on a Saturday and a few glasses of wine on a Sunday.

So, probably too much.

Say 12 drams, 4 bottles of beer and 2 big glasses of red wine.

Recommended, but not based on any evidence.

I drink a glass or two of red most nights, and occasionally more than that. I only get drunk a couple of times a month because the fall out just isn't worth it. I did get to the point of drinking a bottle or more most nights which really wasn't clever. I stopped doing that because I wanted to lose some weight and the wine was the easiest source of calories to ditch.

Mon/Tue/Wed - No Alcohol
Thu/Fri/Sat - Couple of Beers each night
Sun - Bottle of wine shared with Wifey

Holidays - Sensible drinking but every day as a treat!

I've cut back mid-week and tend to only drink either Friday or Saturday but not both. I was consuming say, a couple of beers and a little spirit about 3 nights mid-week but since christmas have stopped almost totally.

I still have a fairly active social life and my mates are all drinkers. That led to five cans and a bottle of wine last Sunday and I felt dreadful afterwards. Too much for me these days.

We had two nights out with work this week and I had 3 beers the first night and less than everyone else the second. One of the Welsh girls made a total fool of herself in front of the MD and booze was to blame entirely.

Funny thing, alcohol. I'm pleased I can't bare the hangovers as I get older (28) and imagine I'll reduce my intake further as I get older and have a family.

Hardly touch alcohol at all these days, and if I do open a bottle of wine it will take me a good week to finish it.

Seems the older I get the less I want to drink or can tolerate alcohol.
