Hope someone can help, have googled but would like fresh thoughts.

Jumped into our 2000 V Plate e39 Alpina (only 61K on clock for ref if this is a high mileage issue)

ABS and Traction light stayed on, as I had to drive the car this morning I noted the Trip or the Speedometer were not reading or recording. I did not notice if the instant mpg was working but I presume not. Was in shock at the time…!

What can it be, speed sensor? But then why would the ABS & Traction stay on at 0mph?

Thoughts very very gratefully received.
Thanks Mark

well known fault. One of the abs sensors is out on the rear wheel. Cant remember which one, but do a search here under ABS and it should tell you.

easy to fix and quite cheap.the ABS on these cars is a known weak point. The abs control mudule can go wrong as well, giving all abs, traction etc lights on all the time.

Thanks williamp, have done a search and thats what I have come up with. Will call BMW and German&Swedish for a cost and get one today.

Will definitely post up what happens when I change it. Not many people close out a question with what happens after solving the issue.

So this issue is not milage dependent? Just age?

Thanks,
M

I think it must be an age thing - neither myself nor my mate have had this yet on our E39's and both are on 160k miles now. I'm suprised, I've been waiting for it to rear its head! Both cars are newer than yours.

Seems to age like you say Fox.

Right just had a fault code reader on the car, it's the passager rear speed/abs sensor.

Patten part just under £34ish Stealer ££94.

Oh and it didn't do it after work or when I was leaving the garage...!!

Thanks for the help. M

Crumbs.. that must have hurt.
Started the car this morning and no problems..... will take the wheel off tomorrow to see if the connection is loose.
Post with the outcome drb29.

Stick with genuine BMW sensors, I went through about 3 pattern parts that didn't fix my problems. As soon as the genuine sensor went it everything worked fine! I'm definitely not alone finding this.
