Are there any known issues with the 5.5 litre V8 fitted to the SL, E Class and S Class from 2006 onwards?

Don't think so. I own a 2004 C55 AMG and the engine is amazing, i have had no problems at all from it.

Only problem I`ve had is intercooler pump and relay. Quite a common problem.

AFAIK the supercharged engines had problems with the pump but even then they were from the earlier models of cars.

It's such an unstressed engine that hardly anything goes wrong with them.

The supercharger pump is a cheap(ish) fix - mine was < 250 fitted.
