Where's the music forum gone?
Discussion
I've just noticed this.
What about music gear though? Lumping it in with TV and film suggests it's a forum for discussing music itself, not instruments, studio equipment etc which a fair chunk of the music forums posts used to be about.
I wouldn't think to make post asking for advice on choice of pickup for my Telecaster or chord fingering technique in the TV, Film & Music forum, the same way you wouldn't post a "Which HDMI cable?" thread in there (I understand we have a home cinema and equipment forum).

Looks like there'll be a lot more traffic in there then! It's a bit of a shame because some of the interesting stuff posted by creative types in there that might not get a lot of posts but are well worth a read will get lost amongst threads on The Apprentice, Lost and Big Brother. It used to be a nice quiet corner inhabited by people who could actually play instruments.

Isn't that the whole point of merging them! Topics will get seen by a wider audidence so thus there will be more replies. In fact I would argue that TV and film has as much in common with the old music forum as it does with thephotography and video forum. People were sharing their music there, asking for advice on kit and techniques and sharing their favourite music. On the photography forum people share their photos, ask for advice on kit and techniques and share their favourite photos.
Unfortunately all of the interesting creative and technical stuff will be lost before anyone gets a chance to read it. It just won't be worth starting topics in the first place.
Edited to add I bet only a handful of the mods actually visited it regularly so perhaps weren't aware that we weren't in there just talking about the latest Britney album. It is understandable as it was a little geeky in there. In the same way I bet not many visit photography and video eiter. This isn't a critism of the mods, just a possible expanation as to why this change had been made when it doesn't really make much sense.

Maybe expand the Home Cinema forum to include any sort of electronic hardware - there is the crossover (arf) to amplifiers, processors and suchlike, after all.
What about non-electronic stuff? I mean, if I'm looking for advice on choosing a new acoustic guitar, or (as I occasionally fool myself into believing I will one day) learning the piano then "Home Cinema" is not the obvious place to look for it is it?Oy! Moderators!! Either give us back our old "Music" forum or give us a nice shiny new "Musicians" one!!!

How about a stickied sub-forum for musical-making types within the larger music/tv forum. That way it's well defined, accessible by those nosying around, but also a snug corner?
That'd work for me, but that's essentially what the music forum used to be. I don't think there is another forum within a forum though is there? You would run the risk of people not realising it's there.Realistically there is almost no common ground between the old music forum and TV and film, despite what conclusions might be drawn from just reading the forum title. I still think the easiest solution would be to revert back to having just a music forum. I don't really care where the TV and film section ends up really, provided it goes in somewhere where there is sufficient traffic to give the existing threads a fighting chance at surviving.

I like the idea of that. It would be more accurate as to what you would find inside. I think the name would need to incorporate something to relate it to equipment too, in case it sounds too formal. What about "Musicians and gear" or something along those lines?--

Thinking about it some more, I think the separate Music forum as was, is the better structure, given the input from, and advice for, musicians.
It's akin to the Photography forum in that regard, whereas the TV&Film area is more or less exclusively for talking about the shows & films themselves, not making them (although I realise there have been a few threads involved with production, it's not nearly as widespread as in music or photography).

I bet people interested in the production side would actually get a better response in the photography and video rather than TV and film. I think there are some people in video production in there.

I'm sorry, but I have to agree (and feel obliged to add I have no problems with the P+P changes
)
The music forum was exactly that and a place for discussion of music (bands etc), but also advice for those wanting to learn to have a go for themselves.
It may not have been the most fast-moving forum, but I completely agree with the comments about the type of posts usually found in there now likely to be lost amid the TV related stuff.
.....and you can forget messing around with the photography forum as well! Am I on the wrong website do you think?
