I'm in the middle of fitting a new kitchen and with it, wanting to get the boiler replaced.

Now everything is out of the kitchen it appears the gas pipe coming from the meter is a steel pipe with an external diameter of about 1 inch. I assume this is 3/4 BSP.

Now I have had a few gas fitters around to quote and they are umming and arring about needing to fit a new 22mm pipe straight from the gas meter (which would be a right messy pain in the arse).

The existing boiler is 28 kW and I've not had an issue with it. The new boiler would be a 28 kW Worchester Bosch.

I thought the bore of 3/4 BSP steel pipe and 22mm copper was very similar so my thoughts were they should just be able to couple the 3/4 BSP to 22mm copper which would go up to the boiler or am I being simple?

They should stop guessing and do the calculations.

Now the electrician has been today and cut a load of holes in the ceiling, I can more of less see the route of the pipe and count total length at 5.5 Meters with 7 elbows along the way. Do elbows count as 0.6 M? If so, the total pipe run is 9.7 Meters.

I will have no other appliances making use of gas.

An elbow = 0.5m

As long as you have a min 3/4" running from meter, I would be happy to intall a condensing boiler. Worst case, once boiler is installed with original gas pipe and the gas rate is correct, you shouldn't have a problem.
