Hi - was noticing my engine oil temp creeping up towards 100 sometimes in heavy traffic london driving. Is this a problem? Thanks!

Normal running temperature is about 90-100C.. just make sure its got the correct amount in it...! If its an L/C car check the water level too.. smile

More than likely your cooling fan resistor is bust , i's a common problem and an easy fix.

It shouldn't go much past 80 (if memory serves)...
I had this problem on my 996 , the temp would go well past the 80 mark if stuck in traffic , I brought it to my OPC and they changed out the ballast resistor which sent current to the fan for low speed operation , and all was well .. Temp gauge once again stuck right on the middle of the '80' mark.
Bring it to your local indie , he'll tell you farly quickly if this isthe solution.

I wouldnt worry 90 - 100 is correct. It is suggested by most on here that you should drive you car hard unless it is up to temp of 90.

My 997 runs at 90-95 once it has been running for 10 mins

Maybe my memory is failing me .. I thought anything much over 80 on the 996 was unusual? ..
Also apologies , I didn't realise it was a 997 we were talking about..

Talking oil, not water. Anything over 110 and you are having fun or being chased by the bib. biggrin

Thanks for the info all. I'll keep an eye on it. Just to clarify, its the oil temp, not the engine temp and its a 997.2

Oil temperature is very much car dependant ... my GT4 regularly runs 107C until the additional coolers fire-up ad the race cars can run up to 150C, accepting that their oil is changed very frequently.

Porsche (most ?) engines are oil/water cooled ....
