Just got confirmation that I'll have my nice double garage for another 8 months, which gives me time to crack on and rebuild the bugger (97 4.2).

My background is in automotive websites, and I'm wondering whether any of you guys would benefit from a website that detailed my rebuild, had step-by-step guides, tips, etc? I noticed on another topic there were some calls for a company and garage review/rating system which is something that could easily be incorporated.

I've had a look around and for the most part I could only find Dave Hinn's website that offered something similar. To take nothing away from him I'm sure I'm not the only one that appreciates the manuals he hosts, but I have to say the quality of those manuals is quite poor (but that's to do with TVR, not Dave).

For those of you who do think it is a good idea, I'd be hoping that such a site would help partly fund my rebuild through either donations, member scheme and/or advertising.

Also, if I'm ever lucky enough to move on to another TVR model, I'm sure the site could be expanded to include that model(s).

Any thoughts much appreciated.

Sounds like a bloody good idea to Me!,cus at some point in the future all Cerbie owners who value their car will have to go through this.

A good idea.

Go for advertising rather than membership to raise revenue.

I've done a similar thing for my S-Series, although it's more of a blog than laid out as a reference. There are step-by-step guides etc in there, and I think other owners find it useful.

I'm not planning on doing the same for the Cerbera, but I do think that it would be useful. I wouldn't pay for it though.

I didn't do it to raise money. I have no adverts and no members, subscriptions etc. It's there to be helpful to anybody who finds it helpful.

Super idea idea . I'm bussy myself getting my Cerb up and running in the Netherlands. Having bad luck with it because of a broken camshaft. But... a good detailed internetsite according to a rebuilding project of a TVR Cerbera would be great (mottivation) for me and i'm for sure for a lot of other people in the UK, but also in the rest of Europe where there are a lot of other TVR Cerbera enthousiast.

If you need webspace / hosting. P.M. me. For my company, we have are own prof. webserver and if you want, i can give you a (spam) free account for your project without limmitations in space / speed for free.

Thanks guys. Got a classic Mini engine to finish building, and some of my old Mini bits to get rid of (5 boxes worth all piled in the middle of the garage), once I've got that all out the way I'll get to work on it. smile

Started making some progress on this now, though not much to see yet.

www.thetvrsite.com

Might give the full chassis rebuild a miss in order to try and get some summer fun in, but still got work to do before an MOT which will be put into the website.

So far I'm thinking the website will inlcude:
  • My personal blog
  • Other people's blogs
  • Companies directory/reviews
  • Tech section, with how-to's, problem solving, etc.
Anything else that could prove useful?

Excellent, I've got stacks of digital pics, let me know if you want any. http://tvrcerbera.co.uk/Gallery/ please ask before using. :-D

Tim

PS: It was me that was working on setting up a rating website - I'll shelve it for now if you're planning on incorporating it.

BTW: If anyone's interested in checking out another interesting TVR website, I've just made the update of the TVR Speed Championship site live: http://www.tvrspeedchampionship.co.uk

I'm quite experienced with Joomla, and have done company listings and reviews on another site, so it shouldn't be too difficult for me. Sorry if I've stepped on any toes! boxedin

I'll stick both of those links up on my site once it's done. smile

What a bl00dy brilliant idea.

I would suggest that you could explore some links with potential parts suppliers, as it is likely that your target audience will be interested in buying bits. Also, perhaps technical help or outsourcing companies (e.g. powder coating, sandblasting etc).

An idea could be to have sections for smaller jobs, and have contributions from PH members on "how I did it" with photos - this could then start to collate a series of jobs, or several versions of same job, with practical hints and tips with PHOTOS.

E.g. section on bodywork, subsections on headlight conversions, fitting splitters, etc

Having been reading through Sprint magazine and working my way through a mates mountain of back copies, there are in the earlier versions frequent articles on "how I did this".

ALso suggest that you could contact members of PH that have done restoration or repair work, and use them as case studies, perhaps breaking the work down into sections (e.g. Interior (trim, dashboard, ICE, cleaning, carpet / leather replacements; Engine .....; Bodywork...... ; Electrics .....)

I'd be very interested in using this as reference and guide for future work on the Cerb!

Good luck

I will be adding a 'proper' web site to my site soon, so I'm guessing that there may be a cross over of info' which has got to be a good thing. yes

The more the better.

Since Cuban defected to the Yanks there's been nothing for the Cerb' enthusiast other than this forum really.

Great idea.
If you want to host the stuff I have up feel free. I just put it up as a central repository to stop everyone sending CD's around. I can turn off the little server I have then as it only runs on my home line which has a 756k uploadbiggrin

Ooo, that's great, thanks for that. I was actually going to contact you soon regarding those manuals! I also plan to slowly change the photos used in the manuals to decent new ones! biggrin

This is another great thing that seperates the Cerbera from the rest.

The community, much like the car - is pretty much unmatched. Massive bow to all who make it so. Feel proud to be part of it people, this is something great. smile

I'm currently replacing the fuel lines on my 96 4.2 which run inside the transmission tunnel, have removed a fair bit underneath the car in order to get in the tunnel to get at the pipes.

I was told by an expert it couldn't be done without removing the engine! wink

I am taking loads of pictures as I was intending to post them as a how to blog, don't know if you want to incorporate any of that in one of your blogs on the new site?

just couple of suggestions.

as many of the cars are different, it might be more a communal tips and tricks, blog etc. where you can post answers - step by step guides. moderated of course before they go live.
back in the day i ran the ratpa.com - bloody nightmare before the time of all these tools. it would be worth tapping up all the suppliers, such as tim @ act. etc.. clever trevor - jools.

tie in with the cerbera register here

I'm happy to sponsor your rebuild to cover it in a book. I work for company called blurb www.blurb.com, its print on demand. if its successful - it will enable you to "sell" your efforts our free bookstore. which we can all benfit from.

look forward to parts and replacement pages and seeing the rebuild.

sorry seems i didn't read all the thread apologies for repeating.
i'd be happy to contribute all the things/projects/ideas I've done in the past for the smaller sections. i still learn from others on here with their experience, and hopefully vice vs. i still have all the old docs from the site (theratpac.com), and the original jools/faisal (tvr freak) manual that many refer to.
