Sorry for the daft question...
...what was done to the 2.5 engine to get it to 3.0l or is it a completely different engine that is used? If you want to go to the 3.0l engine can you change the stroke etc to get the 3.0l or is it not possible?

If you have 2.5 and want to get the 3.0l engine whats the easiest way to do it (without buying a GTO3 obviously). Can you buy them from some of the guys who are doing the rebuilds for these cars?

Thanks and sorry for the question, just want to know what my options are if I buy a 2.5

Just found that they changed from Fords 2.5 to the 3.0l engine due to availability.

So there are plenty of blocks to get your hands on as a starting point for a strong build I presume.

You can also buy the engine from the US quite cheap but I'm not sure if it has oil squirters as that and arrow rods are the only difference. May also be worth speaking with rossion.

The 3.0L duratec is a different block and heads than the 2.5L duratec, although the two share many components. The stroke is not what's changed on the 2.5L to achieve a 3.0L. The two share the same rods. The bore is what's increased to achieve the extra displacement. And with that being said, the 2.5L cannot be bored to a 3.0L due to the thin walls of the water jackets. You'll have to grab a 3.0L block and heads.

The 3.0L engines are in abundance over here in the US, since Ford put the 3.0L duratec in practically all of their cars like the Ford Taurus, Mercury Sable, Ford Escape, Jaguar X-type, Jaguar S-type, Lincoln LS, etc. Hell, they even used 2 3.0L V6's in the 6.0L Aston Martin Vanquish engine prototype. wink

The best thing to do is see if AER can ship you a 3.0L Noble spec engine to the UK.
