Me and few mates have finally decided this year that europe is a deffinate in the summer.
We dont have much of an idea of a route but we are deserate to include the best roads with fantastic views.
From the tunnel we will make our way over to belgium - bruges, from there make our way down to switzerland - lake gineva, thats as far as we've got but need some help on good locations and even better roads.
cheers

I would do it the other way around i.e from Calais drive down through France to the South, across to Italy then back up via Switzerland.

Details of my last trip are here http://www.pistonheads.co.uk/gassing/topic.asp?h=0...

If you want seriously good roads then France has it all.

I would go from Calais to Reims (cross country) then to Dijon via the D996 which is a simply brilliant road. From Dijon you have a hour or so's drive on the Autoroute to Grenoble where you pick up the N85 Route Napoleon all the way into Cannes.

From there you are within an easy drive of Monaco and the surrounding roads (Col de Turini) and on to Italy.

I've found some truly brilliant roads by just puuting the destination into my Tom Tom and telling it to avoid the motorways.

I agree with what Davey S2 said. Personally i'd avoid Montreaux on Lake Geneva, i know its personal choice but i hated the place, never met people so rude, and the place was a sthole, apart from the sunset which was awesome.

Switzerland is fantastic, some amazing driving roads between Stelvio pass and Davos, the Furka and Grimsel passes are stunning and my favourite place in the whole world. They're not far from Luzern which is a beautiful town nestled at the foot of the alps, with a huge lake. Austria is worth a shout to, by far the most beautiful and friendly country in the world, and the route i took from Werfern - Fussen was amazing.

If your looking for ideas, here's some pics etc from my trip last year:

Cough Debatable.

Quite a few folks prefer Germany / Austria to the France / CH thing.

Aachen is three hours from Calais, then you can drive as fast
as you feel is sensible all the way to the Alps.

To saying nothing of the RossFeldStrasse, the GrossGlockener
HochAlpineStrasse, Timmelsjoch etc etc when you get there.

As ever, http://www.alpineroads.com has it all.

I am guessing this is Callum?

I am one of the group also going on this trip.

DAVEY S2 - out of interest, do you mind saying how much that particular route set you back in petrol costs?

sounds an interesting route for my mk2

There are so many amazing roads in the Alps, my advice would be to look on Google Maps, zoom in so that you are seeing all an area has to offer. The roads show up very clearly.
Get up to the Stelvio Pass if you can, it is stunning, and there is a lot in that area.
