I've picked up a cheapo Aiptek HD cam. for the odd track day and wired an external mic input to it as was getting a lot of clipping and distortion with the internal mike. I read that this is a common problem as the factory mic is very sensative.
Trying an external mike (good quality notebook mic) I am still having the same problem. As soon as I start the engine the sound just gets distorted even though it is not loud, doesnt seem to make any differance where I place camera or mic. Any advice on what I can do? Want to stick with this cam as video quality great for the price. Lol and just bought 8 spare batts!

Not sure but is the mic compatible with the camcorder? I'm thinking specifically of input levels, which I think are quoted in millivolts (mV).

This is a great idea didnt know you could get such a thing, just had a look and really good price too. Will get one ordered asap. Think if this doesnt do the trick I am going to have to look at a seperate recorder for the sound. Cheers
