Not a manufacture, just a brand I am sure (never heard of them). Very attractive though:

ETA - a little digging and I find this, which is a shame. Still, they look better than the Oskar Emil's etc of this world.

I haven't read the review yet - so this is just based on what I saw on the eBay auction.

It's an interesting looking watch, but the finish just isn't good enough for the asking price. That looks like a bespoke strap fitment, too, so if it turns out to be uncomfortable or just worn out, replacing it is going to be a pain.

The view of the movement seems to show that although it's decorated, it's fairly crudely done.

In short, it'd be a steal at about £150, but at about £700 there are lots of much better options.

I don't know about your Wholer's Alex but did anyone see the 'seller's other items' link to this badboy?

Don't be bidding on it, I saw it first!

You may mock, but I'd bet a pint of finest foaming ale that every man about town will have a fruit-based chronometer this summer.

You mark my words.

Haute horologie à base de fruits. It's the future.

Look at the face!

It says 'Graham' on the front. hehe You can tell really by the understated design cues.

When you say not a manufacturer, what do you mean? Is that in the same sense that Mercedes-Benz isn't a manufacturer or do you mean that it's made by a manufacturer that makes watches for various different companies who then sell them with their own names?

I said not a manufacture - not "manufacturer". "Manufacture" is the term given to established and respected watch makers.

Hope that clarifies things!

Ah, I'd never heard that word being used in that context so I thought you'd mistyped. I suppose there must be quite a bit of controversy over what constitutes an "established and respected" watch maker.

I'm not really a watch person, but I think that looks horrible!

I'd go a little further and say that, in the most literal sense of the word, a "manufacture" is a watchmaker that makes their own movements.

Whether this applies to those companies that take a base ETA or Unitas movement and do lots and lots of modifications to it, I'll leave as an exercise for the reader.

Which one? The one I originally posted?

I'm surprised - it might be cheap crap, but it is good looking cheap crap in my opinion. I could name dozens of seriously expensive watches that are pretty hideous by most standards.

Blimey. eBay wasn't showing me the winning bid before. $177. I was taking my reference from the $1195 in the item title.

For a hundred and twenty sheets, that's not so bad. Still don't like the strap fitment, though...

Yep - like I say I'm not a watch person, although I appreciate the quality and craftmanship available. I think it looks cheap - just searching google for "cheap watch" I have come across this http://www.watchshopuk.com/mens-sekonda-chronograp... which I think looks a lot nicer for a lot less money.

Is the Wohler American by any chance, as it screams USA to me from the way it looks?

The real question is which is worse. The "Strawberry" or the Chronofighter?
