MIL Not knowing her place
Discussion
Being involved in education, both my wife and my mother in law have had the last week off, and are slowly doing each others head in.
This has come to a head today when the manipulative old b
h decided that she was going to try and further buy my kids affection by buying them a climbing frame playslide type thing. My oldest has apparently (I've been at work all day) been a nightmare hitting the youngest and spent most of the day on "the step"
So eventualy my wife says, enough is enough, and gets the oldest to phone is Granma and say he's been too naughty to get a slide thingy today, perfectly reasonalble.
The MIL goes mental at my wife treating her like a 4 year old telling her she's too hard on them and basicaly poorly bringing up the kids, giving the oldest a complex etc (all b
ks) and shouting down the phone at her "bring them up to me for a few days, you need to calm down" WTF??!!It's her doing all the shouting here not my wife.
So wife says politley, go away, I know what I'm doing he'll not be seeing you today to get this thing.
20 mins later she (MIL) comes bursting through the front door hair still wet as if it was some sort of emergency (wife didn't lock it) takes kids into another room and starts asking them if they want to go to her house for Fun fun fun, so of course their shouting yes.
Wife about to blow her top but doesn't want confrontation in front of kids, and I'm due in at 4.30....this should be fun!
Edit - now I've calmed down a bit a realise my speeling is poor, but the "their", "they're" thing is just unforgivable, shot at dawn by the grammer police please.

It would seem you know already what to do and you're just having a little vent.
Support your wife and just try not to create any alienation on the MIL side of things, it will only make it worse. I would also say if you go and pick up the children you are going to look like the bady.
Take advantage of the free baby-sitting and take your wife out for a nice evening, it seems shes had a tough day!

So are the kids still at home or has she taken them?
Still at home on fattys (MIL) knee being fed crap out of her sercet pocket stash. While I agree with keeping the peace, taking advantage of the babysitter etc, if it was me, I would reassert my authority over my kids and tell her where to get off. (and yes, I have had to do this before, with my own sister, who thought there was nothing wrong with taking my kids out for the day, while they were staying at my grandmother's and not telling me about it)
so..... your MIL is offering to take the kids away for a few hours/days...
and this is a bad thing?
just imagine what you could do whilst they are away?
fettling the car unencumbered
fettling the wife, unencumbered
going out
staying in, fettling the wife, unencumbered
the list goes on.
my parents and the mil, live 200 miles away from my family, oh how we laugh when they can't come down for the weekend because they are too tired..

I can't see what you're complaining about, your MIL is asking to take the kids off you for the bank holiday weekend. If she thinks they're only going for the day, just make sure you and the wife bugger off for the weekend once they've disappeared at the end of the street!
Two things will happen.
A: You'll get a weekend sans chidlren
B: She'll not interfere again
It's a win win situation I say!

There is nothing you can do, I tell my MIL to f
k off all the time yet she still comes around.
One good punch is worth a thousand words.
If you were an old woman I'd slug you for that comment.

All's well that ends well.(apart from the fact I'll be woken at 6.30 am by a pair of children wanting me to give them their breakfast and put on Jettex, but I wouldn't have it any other way)

WTF?
I'd tell my mother were to get off if she did that..... I'd also take her aside and tell her that in future she will support your wife and yourself when you are disciplining your children (let's face it, they are not being beaten black and blue here but not getting a reward for behaving badly) or she will no longer be permitted to see them. Before they turn into lawless little s**ts.
If your MiL has a dog I will hazard a guess that it does what it likes.
Oh, and I'd lock those doors as well.
