Just bought a coupe, it has a 4 inch powerflow exhaust which is a bit loud for me when on the motorway. I'm after a stainless one that's quieter. Any recommmendations? It's decatted and I don't want anything that's going to reduce the performance obviously.
Cheers.

Can't help, but suggest you get across to the FCCUK forum for more info. Mine too has a decat custom exhaust but is smaller diameter (3" I think except tailpipe), and its loud (but good). Are you sure its 4" through or just the tail. If the latter, then you might get the rear box and tail custom done for a better sound.

I've got a supersprint and it's not too noisy. No decat though.

I just got rid of the system on mine- it had a 4" tail pipe but the system was just under 2.5" from the cat back.

I found mine to be just loud noise- it did'nt really sound like a 5 cylinder if that makes any sense, so I ditched all the silencers- just runs the cat now & sounds quite nice IMO. (if a little loud at a constant 70mph- circa 3000rpm where it tends to drone slightly.)

Anything other then 3000rpm & it's fine...I tend to find it's better to just go fasterbiggrin

Bluefin, Miltek even Peco all do a system for the Coupe.
I just done a search on Youtube to find a sound I liked the most.

I'll try & get a clip of my exhaust sans silences if you're interested

Yeah it does make sense. Mine is like that, you can't really hear the engine, just the exhaust. I cruise at 80mph and at that point it's too loud to hear the stereo unless it's turned up loud. The 2 competing don't really make for a relaxing experience, although it sounds good at lower speeds.
Anyway, after crawling under the car I've now noticed that the tailpipe is 4" and the rest of the exhaust is 2.5 and in mint condition. So it looks like time to just change the backbox which is a relief as will probably be cheaper!

I had a miltek on mine with a 3" downpipe and Decat, sounded great when booted, but super quiet with no drone for runs!

The Supersprint system sounds nice, and not too loud, but rusts faster than an Alfa Sud on a humid day.

I'm with him, the two pronged back support rusted right through on mine, now have a s/steel custom set up, which is a bit noisy at 3-3500 revs, apart from that its fine.

Middle section just come away from back box. Back box looks in decent nick so hope it's salvageable.

Whereaboots would they be, bearing in mind I'm now without a proper exhaust so don't really want to drive too far to avoid turbo meltdown?

They're in Huddersfield, but do a next day delivery service. Speak to Steve on 01484 865086.
And make sure that whoever fits the exhaust gets the parts on the right way round, otherwise the box will be at a really weird angle.

don't ask how i know this.

I got a Scorpion catback system 4 1/2 years ago and it's still doing fine.

Only exhaust problem* I've had in 5 years of ownership is the exhaust split just after it does a 90 degree bend to go under the floor, i.e. about where your left ankle is.
Fastfit place did a temporary fix but said it needed a replacement whereas a local specialist said they all do that and welded it back together.

  • Obviously the shiny tailpipe bit on the standard exhaust fell off but since they all do that I don't count it as a problem.
