This has been bugging me for years.

I watched a low budget (think it was Australian) film (most likely part of the BBC2 Alex Cox introduced Moviedrome series) about a post apocalyptic world where very very few people were alive. The main two characters were 2 teen girls. The sting in the tail of the film was that everyone in the world died on some cataclysmic time event and the only survivors were people who were already dying as the event happened - and it was going to happen again, so to stay alive you had to kill yourself at the correct time, (if that makes any sense???).

As well as the last scene of them killing themselves to stay alive there was a great scene of them going to a radio station as it was broadcasting only to find that it was a pre-recorded tape playing and the cinematography of the empty city at dawn break was stunning.

I would like to watch the film again but can't remember the name and have never seen it advertised on terrestial TV since.

Can anyone help with the name of the film please??

The Quiet Earth (1985)

This has a very similar plot to the one you have described.

Doesn't sound like the Quiet Earth to me - the main character in that was the bloke that went off the rails?

There was another post-apocalyptic film with two teenagers as leads, "Night of the Comet"?

Yes, the OP's first post plot sounds more like Night of the Comet!

Para 1 = Night of the Comet, but not the dying or killing yourself bit, and not Austrialan, but America. The survivors where all in some metal casing when the Erth went through a comet tail. If exposed, you became dead or a zombie.

Para 1 = The Quiet Earth was in Austrailia, but not with two teens as leads.

Para 2 = Night of the Comet, radio station setting definitely, this is where the two girls meet Hector

(I watched NIght of the Comet whilst doing the ironing yesterday)

So this is a memory hybridisation of two or more Sci-Fi films I think, perhaps worth of a newfilm of its own?

Just watched it.
Wasn't the greatest film ever.
(Was the fastest torrent download ever though, 1.4Gb in a few hours).
