Why is it that we blokes are so concerned that our other halves like our cars and we can't seem to be able to buy one without their permission?

I hear and read so many times quotes like "well the girlfriend liked it so I bought it" or "she hated the interior so I bought a Boxster" etc.....

Of course this is very sexist and I apologise but it seems to be the case, just look through the forums.

I'm more than guilty of this of course and always buy the car my girlfriend chooses, in this case an S3 and I wanted a blue one so we got BRG instead.

Because they hold the ummmm... "sex card"???

Or Hell hath no fury like that of a woman who doesn't like the car. No wait did I get that one wrong??

I had a similar problem, when I was looking at an Elise, GF hated it. Then I looked at an S3. I liked it, she liked it. There was more space, more luggage room, a better noise. We were all happy.

Your right of course and I was trying to leave the sexcard out of it but it's a huge bearing.

I'm lucky in that my GF actually likes driving and performance cars but can you imagine those poor blokes who are trying to persuade their women from MX5's into a TVR of any kind....it can't be a pretty sight!

I think us blokes are too scared of the sex card! We should't forget that our respective wives/GFs will be going without too, but the thing is, us blokes will have the car we wanted (hopefully a TVR) to tide us over until our significant others come to their senses!! Thats my strategy anyway!

I like your style Roy but we've just got to put it into practice of course which could be tricky unless your good at cooking as well?

Whats a sexcard

I just went out and bought one. Brought it home and GF came out muttering "Whats that noise.....

WOW!

Next question was 'can I have the keys....'

I want, If I have the money I get.

I spent too many years compromising and it made me very resentful.

(the purchase of my TVR has caused much upset in my household, but it is worth it).

now I come across as a domineering old witch, oh well!

Some of us are just lucky I guess - my girlfriend loved my Griff and loves my Tuscan so much that she decided she would get her very own TVR, so recently bought her own S3!

Now we just argue about what car we go in!

When I’m out in the car my girlfriend is normally with me so it important we both like the car, fortunately she’s a bit of a petrol head as well and likes lots of the cars I like. Hopefully once she turns 25 I’ll be able to put her on my insurance so she can drive the Griff as well.

A previous GF of mine demanded she was put on the insurance to drive my Integrale which I owned at the time which I duly did. She loved it and drove it well.

After a while I changed the Grale upon her request and bought her a TT Roadster as that was her latest craze....um big mistake.

In the meantime I also acquired my Fulvia HF which she never liked either.

I decided to put my foot down and go for a Griff 500 as it's what I'd hankered after for years.....er no she wanted a Jeep or worse a Freelander! How you go from a TTR to that I've never understood and we didn't have any kids!

I'd had enough by then and the sexcard had expired so it was time for a change, good bye GF hello Griff.

Anyway, it's good to see I've learn't from these earlier mistakes as I now have a lovely new GF and guess what the Griff has gone to be replaced by her S3......I am a nutcase!

my wife went to Cornwell with the kids a few months back, while she was gone I brought an S1. It was in the garage for 3 days before she noticed........she loves it! Tough if she didn't. I do get sore knees and hands from cleaning the floor every day though, as a compomise you understand, and serving drinks to her friends in only rubber pinny is a bit cheeky!! - but for the love of an S - it's worth it.

And what's so hard about beans on toast? Although it's not as messy now I put the beans on after the toast is cooked

Yes there is that too, and for the adventurous bloke who REALLY likes to get stuck in, there is always boil-in-the-bags!

I'm still quite chuffed that I managed to get someone else's girlfriend to part with such a large amount of cash!!

To be honest, she'd had her eye on buying something for a while, and was on the verge of buying a Caterham when you put the idea of getting an S into her head, so I don't blame you too much!

Nice one Podie, when the time comes shortly can you have a word with the "War Office" and suggest she allows me a T350 to go with her S?
