350i leaking and play in the diff.
Discussion
Having a day off from decorating services today so I thought I would have a go at sorting a few things with the car.
First on the list is the leaking diff. There is oil leaking from the input shaft end it would appear, I'm going to degrease the area (yes I know not to degrease the UJ
) and keep an eye on it. I'm also trying to get to the bottom of the 'slack' in the transmission and playing around with the input shaft to the diff, there does seem to be a noticeable amount of play within the differential itself.
The diff. doesn't whine and I am yet to check fluid level, as I'm going to change it anyway whilst it's up in the air. (not sure if a supplier of lubrication is open today
)
How much free play is acceptable in the diff? As I would assume none. The car is making it's way to Le Mans this year so I don't want the b
d dying on the way! TBH I can live with the 'slack' for now as you can only really notice it at low speeds.
Is this a sign if imminent death or will it soldier on like this for ever?
Thanks
James.
