e39 530d 184 v 193bhp

sorry if this has been covered before

I'm going to look at a couple of 530d's tommorrow, both pre-facelift cars. one of them however was first registered after 04/09/2000 which i believe was the engine change over point, correct? It does have the old style lights though and is on a X plate so could it just be a late registered 184 lump? I obviously wanted a 193 if poss as i belive it was a better lump but the price differences are quite large.

Facelift models are 193bhp, prefacelift are 184bhp so the car you've found is a 184bhp.

The engine changeover was 2003 (week 10?). So, 03 plate onwards. I also think the newer engine has a six speed gearbox as opposed to a five speeder.

This is not true, you are thinking of the E46 330d.

looks like i'll have to settle with 184 then-not that thats the worst thing in the world by any stretch.

just out of interest what were the differences in the engines to give the 9bhp, its obviously not just in the mapping.
