I had something similar on my 04 CV8 (with wortec focus) - smell of petrol in the cabin during prolonged high speed running - when I was doing about 160 mph on the Autobahn last summer. Smell got stronger once we pulled off the autobahn, had to pull over after a while to take a look under the bonnet. Got a shock to see a big puddle of liquid running out from underneath the car, but found this was only water from the aircon condensor. The smell eventually went away and it hasn't done it since. Have never found any leaks and the car never drips anything on the floor when left parked. Would love to know what it was. Monkfish???
fuel system at the front aint that complicated so I'm sure you'd spot any leaks, assuming you've got the turtle shell removed of course otherwise you wont see anything very much. Assume you've been under car to check for drips from tank amd fuel lines? Cars are 5 years old now so I'm guessing some of the pipes, hoses could be past their best especially if you ran the car through the winter this year with the amount of salt they put on the roads.
I had a problem last year where I could spell petrol. I looked all around but couldn't find anything. Then as I was getting out of the car at the VX dealer, where it was booked in for a thorough check I noticed slight staining below the filler cap on the wing. It turned out that the fuel had been syphoning out of the tank at a fairly slow rate.
The cure, was a replacement filler cap. No problems since.
