Got up at 7am to go to a supercar meet thing and to find the car wouldnt start, bloody marvalous, even jumping it from another car and a booster pack wouldnt get it going.

Anyways got the battery off and managed to find the battery on a VW bora was a close match size wise, all of the other cars batteries were far too big to fit on.

Cut a long story short need a new battery and quick as have a bora that I cant move now, first question as the cars under warranty have I got any chance on that route? or is it not worth the phone call and getting angry!

If not who stocks em and whats the part codes etc etc?

Thanks in advance.

Failing that speak to any VX dealer and they WILL be able to get you a battery quickly, they may kick up about not being a VXR or Monaro dealer but they can find it out... oh and they are also the cheapest. DO NOT GO TO HALFRAUDS!

BTW - I had the same situ with mine last year and ended up just buying the battery for £55 myself to save the hastle as VX will want to test your car etc etc before doing a wareentee claim which is difficult when the dame thing wont move! something Picadoors receptionist just could not grasp at the time!! rolleyes

I had a battery fitted free of charge. CV8 was under Network Q warranty. No problems.

Think the network Q warranty is much better than the std manufacturers warranty!

I took my duff battery out of the car at home and took it to my local Vauxhall (non-Monaro) dealer who put their battery diagnostic gizmo on it to get a fault code.
Said fault code was reported to Vauxhall Warranty people who authorized my dealer to issue a new battery to me Free of Charge, same day.
No need to get the car to the dealer, common-sense reigns at last!

PS The link to FAQ's is centre, just above the black bar, at the top of the Forum Home page.

How long is the warranty on the battery? Mine struggles to hold its charge for over a week. Also, what is the issue with Network Q warranty - did I get it with my pre-registered 'ro, I certainly never had any paperwork to suggest it.
Thanks.

Battery is covered under the 3 year new car Warranty.

Someone else may know if Network Q can cover the battery for any longer...

To no surprise was a total waste of time, refuse to even look at the battery as their not a monaro specialist centre, after speaking to them on the phone and asking and also pointing this out when I booked in they seemed to forget I had mentioned this.

However I now must go to the vauxhall monaro centre which is a 45minute drive (1 way) to get their and they will only consider a warranty claim if I take the car and battery together, the fact the car wont start seems to be impossible to understand.

Anyways im going to give up on this one and buy a more powerfull battery than vaux supply and the money I save in fuel for the round trip (let alone the time) will cover the cost of the battery.

My battery was losing charge during the week so I invested in a trickle charger which keeps the car topped up during the week when it's not in use. Might be worth considering if you use yours is a weekend car.

What a bummer. This from the FAQ's

www.hsv.org.uk/topic.asp?t=672867&f=69&h=27

Aberdeen dealer is the Scottish Monaro specialist and my local Dumbarton dealer is not but was still willing to do the business without seeing the car, just the battery.

Try another local Vauxhall dealer.

Get them to phone the Vauxhall Tech people to get approval to supply the battery from stock after testing your knacked accumulator for a fault code.

If batteries are allowed to drop to a very low charge then crystals will start to form on the metal plates and this dramatically reduces the battery's ability to hold charge. It'll show 13-14v but when you go to crank the engine it doesn't have the amp capacity to start the engine.

A trickle charger will only prevent this from happening by keeping the charge topped up above the point at which crystals can form (As will using the car regulary). However once crystals have formed normal charging will not get the battery to a usable state.

You can get a battery conditioner which come in two types. One plugs into the lighter socket and you leave it in there whilst you drive and the other is a combined automatic trickle charger/conditioner. Both work by varying the electric current slightly that the crystals are broken down. Think like the same thing you get with constant heat expansion and contraction. This will more often than not bring a previously dead battery back to a working (if not peak) condition.

How is something plugged into the lighter socket supposed to work whilst you drive?

The alternator will be regulating at around 14V and connected to the battery by a fairly heavy direct cable. The lighter or "power" socket will have lighter wiring via a fuse. Nothing plugged in would be able to alter the voltage at the battery or its condition, whilst the engine is running.
