We're holding a Christening party for my daughter with 100ish guests and I'm on the lookout for 20ish bottles of Moët & Chandon.

Any ideas of the best (cheapest) place to buy said bottles from?

Cheapest I've found so far is £20p/b

Ooooh, you'll get a pasting on here now hehe.

IIRC, Virgin wines are competitive but there are always ~£40 off vouchers flying around the net so could be worth a gander.
Ha! What would you recommend? smile

Cheapest I've found is Tesco in conjunction with vouchers we have.

Hi there,

I run a large beers, wines and spirits wholesale company and supply quite a lot of Champagne. If you are buying Moet for £20 per bottle then thats a pretty decent price. Most places retail it for around £25-£30 and from memory cost price inc VAT is around £21.00.

Regards

Tim

I don't know what the current one is like but this is an interesting article. I did have some of that particular year and it was excellent.

I reckon that Tescos or Sainsburys own brand vintage is probably the best champers you'll get below £50 a bottle, and its often to be had at £15

All a matter of taste, of course, however I'm disgusted at the extent to which prices of even gut-rot 'champagne' have rocketed in recent months, to the point that it's difficult to find anything decent for less than £25 a bottle.

For my money, I'd buy Cloudy Bay 'Pelorus' at £17 or so a bottle, or if on a budget, Montana chardonnay / pinot noir at around £8.99 a bottle. So neither are 'champagne', however I can quite do without the yeasty, raisiny characteristic of cheap champagne. (Not to mention the 'head' in the morning.)

£20 is pretty good I reckon.

I bought 2 cases from virgin wines (auction) for the equivalent of about £15/bottle last Christmas but I think it was a one-off.

You could try Oddbins or an independant to see what discount they'd offer for that quantity...

Thanks for the replies. I've picked up a bottle of Tesco's, as per recommended, and will have a taste tonight smile

Yep, he's a Dutchman. So the French are pronouncing it correctly if it were a French word.

But it's not.

And since Moet say "Mowett" on their TV ads, I think it's fair to copy them...

I got laughed at by some ruddy-cheeked guffawing pink-pin-stripe-suited retard in a restaurant a while ago for ordering it as "Mowett". The wine-waiter was nice enough to comment loudly that it was nice to hear somebody pronounce it properly.

Costco are about £18 if you buy it in a six-pack. I noticed they had a vintage Moet (though not DP) at about £28 the other day.

I suspect there isn't really an answer, whilst it might be mow-ette in dutch, we don't always pronounce foreign names the same way as they are in the native tongue. Van Gough is not Van Goff or Van Go - it is more like Fen Houch with some phlem smile

No doubt further arguments can be had about Mow-ay for just Moët and Mow-ette for Moët-et-Chandon.

Tricky. I once gave a project presentation in French, and got the pronunciation of the phases (lot) mixed up and spent the entire thing talking about monkfish (lotte) !

£20 is good value.

Just checked: £135 for 6 bottles = £22.50 inc vat per bottle
