Hi all,
What sort of typical ranges do you get from the key fobs for setting / disabling the alarm. Mine only seems to work if I'm standing right next to the car.
Also has anyone tried setting the alarm / immobiliser when the engine is running - can it be used to cut the engine if the car is being stolen?

Stand with your key fob pressed up against the car - Do not move backwards even an inch, you will be out of range

Mine only seems to work within about 4 feet of the car, always thought it was a bit crap. Also when I had a flat battery, the RAC chap got me started, then the alarm set it’s self (once running) and went off. But the car kept running.! Which I though was wrong. Apparently it’s designed not to cut the engine once running, for a safety feature (just in case the unit fails whilst your driving – rendering the car dead in a potentially dangerous position). The immobiliser will only stop the car from being started, not once it has started.

Mine works at a reasonable distance but you have to press the button exactly in the middle, press to one side of it and it's about 4 feet.

Probably less than 3 feet, and then only from certain angles. You also have to hold the button down for one second, IIRC.

WHY can't it work as well in a TVR as in other cars? With no metal body to get in the way, you'd think it woudl be better. Argh.

Mine works from a good 30-40 feet away. Not tried it any further - I'll have a go tomorrow, you've got me wondering now.

Make sure you've got good batteries in the remote.

I've "chinned" car alarm remotes for years ... I can't believe the fuzzy plonker had only just found out about it!

Matt,

Not sure why this is but since I have put a battery conditioner on to my Chim, the key fob seems to work from around 30 feet away. Before I started to use the battery condioner I was having to stand right next to the driver's door.

I had probs with mine yesterday, it works only when right next to the car. And yesterday in Tesco's its decided not to work at all and after standing there like an idiot holding the keyfob to my head, I left it unlocked

Will be checking the batteries though
