I did the mistake of buying ikea mattresses for the 2 beds and now they have human indents (no im not a fat bastid) in them that mean the OH is complaining and cant sleep and ends up rolling into it.... same has happened on the other bed as we have tried to switch beds to stop her bad nights sleep.

one is a double and the other a king size... now i dont want to spend 000s on it but enough to make sure that it lasts... ikea have a bad rep and i cant take it back due to them saying i should bring it back and they then test it (so without two mattresses) and from what i have heard they dont give decent refunds and invalidate the warrantee for what ever reason.

So can you lot help.

Sprinter1050 runs an excellent bedshoppe. Up near Louth, so delivery may be an issue, but ought to be able to point you in the right direction for that Lunnon.

As far as the Ikea thing goes, you might as well take em back. You're onlytipping them otherwise...

What's 'memory foam' like? I like the idea of bringing in home in the car all rolled up, but if it's like sleeping on a lump of foam rubber then I'll pass. I just want something comfy that won't develop lumps and bumps.

Tesco direct 50% off Sealy at present. We are just about to move house and treating ourselves to a few things. Got a 'golden dream' king size pillow top. I just hope it doesn't piss all over me then try to smother me to death...

Joking aside, we bought a 'Dreams own brand orthapedic' 3 years ago, that is still doing ok if you want a budget choice. IIRC it was about £170.

We went bed shopping a few weeks back with the express intention of buying a memory foam matress to try and help my back problems. After only the first shop, we knew we would not ever be having a memory foam matress. It's the strangest sensation in the world lying on a bed that isn't springy - and neither I nor the OH liked it.

My only advice would be to get out and try a few different materials - I found pocket sprung were far and away the best, and there were some that had an inch of latex (NOT memory foam) on top of the sprung part, which were just cloud9

Silentnight 'Miracoil' - remember the duck and the hippo? Absolute bks.

Our memory foam one is 3 years old and it's forgotten what it is supposed to look like frown

My other Furniture Village one is still going well after 9 years. London Bed Company I think

TG Hughes do cheap memory foams, got one for the parents.... the bastids didnt like it so I ended up putting it in my spare room. Its a strange mattress as everyone who has slept on it complains the room is too warm.... I think they are crap and you cant go wrong with a proper pocket sprung thingy... may try the memory foam at some point as my mattress has seen some better days (read that as hot action with more than 2 occupants wink .... I blood wish)

I personally think a good mattress is very important, you spend a good few hours in it, it's the usual place for sex and if you get a bad nights sleep then you feel crap the next day. What I'm saying is that go for the best you can afford, as it really is worth it.

I've got one by Relyon at the moment which is really comfortable and seems to be made of decent material. They are fairly widely available.

Heals do some cracking beds but they are very expensive from memory.

we have a sleepeezee (or some such spelling anyway), pocket sprung base with memory foam on top. So you get the benefit of memory foam but its also a bit springy (if you see what I mean)

Its fantastic. My Mrs had a bad back and we couldnt find any way of making it better. Our matress was pocket sprung only a few years old but as a last resort we changed it for this memory foam/pocket sprung hybrid. No more bad back and its very comfortable. Two years on it still does what it says on the tin, no sagging etc. It did cost about £800 IIRC for a king size but worth every penny.

Hypnos, pocket sprung. Go to a local independant.

That is all you need to know - you'll never look back.

Do you mean THE bks (good), as opposed to just bks (bad)?

I got a refund (well, gift card thing) on a 2 year old Ikea mattress that did that. Had to take it back to the shop it came from which was a PITA, but worth it in retrospect.

If I remember right, they have a 15 year warranty or something. The refunded was relative to the % of warranty remaining.

with one mattress being croydon and the other Leeds, that is the issue with doing that.

Have you thought to contact your nearest one's manager, and ask if Ikea act like a lot of multiples do, letting you exchange or deal with something bought from another store at any one that's handy to you?
If, when, you get your refund, you fancy something altogether better in the mattress dept, take a look at the Ergoflex visco-elastic mattresses.

Ikea are not franchises, so you ought to be OK taking both back to either, no? I've returned Croydon stuff in Leeds before.

I bought a mattress recently, never even thought of looking on the net before but did this time.

There are quite a few specialist sites which sell over net - prices way better (a good mattress can cost £1000+ but you soon realise what a rip off they can be from shops), they deliver for free, and often next day

I used www.mattressnextday.co.uk - very efficient
