Scrapheap Challenge

Building racing cars from junk - Channel 4, 30th November

The episode of Scrapheap Challenge filmed at Rockingham will now be shown a week earlier than planned and is scheduled for broadcast on Channel 4 at 5.35pm on Sunday 30th November.

Rockingham was chosen for the ultimate test of the series, a head-to-head between the 2002 and 2003 Scrapheap Challenge Champions, with two racing cars built from scrap in only 10 hours.

Presenters Robert Llewellyn and Lisa Rogers ensured that the teams battled it out fairly and also took to track to sample the latest Rockingham Experience machinery.

The Grand Final was split into three tests on Rockingham's infield racing circuit and unique banked Indianapolis-style oval track. The first two were time trials, with the second including a pit stop to spice things up. The final test was a flat-out race to the chequered flag, where the two cars completed three laps of the circuit - leaving the result in doubt to the very last lap!

I'm sure they found one heavy V8 and one light straight 6, just to make the designs different.

I was nearly going to tell you off then - you told us who won this years series.

But the catalysts were those boffins from last year who worked for Jaguar! So thats alright now

Possibly the remains of my first engine from last season. Not much use though. In the words of 'Engine' Dave from TVR, "It's F**ked mate"!!
