Apologies if this is in the wrong section but I can't find a fishing bit, haha!
Can anyone tell me what kind off fish this is? Washed up on Beadnell bay, Northumberland on good friday, it just felt like one of those fake rubber toys that you get out of joke shops but can assure you it was real. About 12 inches long and 3lb in weight. Unfortunately kids got to it first and popped its belly with a nice pointy stick!

A poisonous Dangler Fish.

If you touch any part of it, within a week, your fingers go black, you fall into a coma and then cark it.

Been nice knowing you.

Actually, I think it's called a 'Lumpsucker'. Cyclopterus lumpus

Never heard of these before. Are they related to puffers?

Yes it is indeed a Lumpsucker, a source of mock caviar IIRC.

Also IIRC it isn't related to the Puffer species and is it not poisonous ASAIK.

I believe "lumpfish" and "lumpsucker" are used interchangeably - and if you looked like that, would you care? It's true that it is the source of cheap "caviare". Yum.
