Well there is so very little left on the car that hasn't been replaced, the wiper set up may as well give up the ghost too.
The wipers have always been slow but as I slowly get the car back to MoT standard, (the latest electrical fun really had me amused) I now find that the wipers don't.
There is power to terminals 4&5 (green and red/green and the earth lead does earth. (Single speed BTW)
The rack was stiff in the tube and the motor has presumably given up as it won't work even with no load.
So question time: How easy is it to change the wheel boxes as the remains of the threads on the spindle bits that protrude through the scuttle are trashed?
How free should the rack be in the tube, I can now move it by hand?
Has anyone got a decent full set up, single or two speed in decent nick, that they want to sell?

ps theres only the steering rack and sub frames that I haven't had to fettle
pps recent electrics: lights work, indicators work inc dash warnings but try both together and indicate left and the right warning comes on and indicate right and the left warning light comes on. Basically the fuse box connections a bit loose but boy did I laugh!

Happy mini-ing

Tony,
You will be best off getting a new rack and motor - (aybe a 2-speed unit but you'll then need a new switch and some extra wiring.
I know that you can mess about with the wiper rack, re-greasing it, etc, and still find it can be a problem. From memory, it's not too difficult to chsnge the arm drive bosses, although if they are 'iffy', masybe it's time for a complete change. The motor comes out easily as it's just a few screws and the electrics are easy to remove.

I made my rack out of a collection of parts from diffrent minis. The switch unit was replaced with a new one but the rest works ok (5years). Not to bad to work on, the hard part is the nuts on the spindels can rot on.
