Mine didnt work originally, but it never worked from go. Turned out the BCM needed flashing.
But it yours used to work and now doesnt then it sounds like warranty. Could be a gas leak etc, your supposed to run it every couple of weeks for a few minutes even in winter to extend the working life IIRC.

Rich you say you should run them every couple of weeks. Does anyone ever switch them off? We run our heaters with the air con on. Even if its pushing out hot air its still "conditioned" hot air isn't it. Therefor better air. Is this right?

Im sure its nicer for the air, but it will cost you in fuel as you have to run the pump all the time. If you turn it off you will gain power and economy smile

I've seen a couple of cars(audi and a vauxhall carlton) do this before bad news is it was the compressor that had seized (from lack of use probably) and that was throwing the belt off

Ive heard from a couple of blokes with superchargers that the AC belt gets thrown off on occasion.
Perhaps you are a member of that club too?

Its very strange but Ive never thrown a belt in 4 years of Holden ownership and 75,000 miles of NA joy.

If the tensioner is defective, the belt WILL fall off with aggressive engine speed changes. Got nothing to do with superchgargers

It also appears more common on VXR8, doubtless due to the fact that GM in their wisdom deleted the additional idler pulley which was present on the earlier cars.

Well as luck would have it mine was off tonight frown
Along with the accessory belt and... the crank pulley! yikes

Off to the fish tank for remedial action. Hopefully threads arnt damaged in the crank!

Fortunately all the bits were resting nicely at the bottom of the engine bay.. except the crank bolt.

Must be all that awsome power wink

Well I had just done a kamakazi 4th gear pull on the M25 logging AFR, then some interesting lights came on in sequence, Alternator, then Check Engine and finally Engine Overheat I thought the belt had just come off and felt like a supercharger owner smile
When I popped the bonnet I noticed things were slightly more chaotic.

Mr RAC came to the rescue with a flatbed.

nasty mate!

My belt came off again today (thankfully no chaos in the engine bay per yours though Rich!)...twice in 3 days for me now, both times under hard acceleration...bloomin' load of rubbish! When I get back from Boston reckon I'll be checking in with Picador to see if I can get a warranty replacement for my tensioner or something...

when u say earlyer cars do u mean earlyer VXR8s like the first 100 batch, 200 batch or different model of car all together?

No, earlier as in Monaros. All R8's are the same.
